Got my office move underway

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Began moving the library and study contents to the vacent bedroom this weekend to free up 100% more space of my attached sunporch greenhouse for crop researh and gardening (yes, I am considering on doing the majority of my foodcrops out there this season). Moving and cataloging 5 years of clutter sure is time consuming. Figure this is a good time to Dewey Decimalize my collected volumes also. At least now my library and gear won't be as susceptable to the greenhouse environmental conditions. But I'm going to miss working in "the rainforest". :>)

Sounds like a great deal of work jay. That should keep you busy for a while if your "accumulation" is even slightly like mine.

Did you get to see the picture of Jds CS office in the magazine a couple of years ago? His was clean compared to mine. I forgot my desktop was woodgrain :>) Got over 1500 new reference books to catalog also, but the extra 300 sq ft of greenhouse will be worth it.

So Jay,

You just organize using the sedimentation system. The important stuff rises to the top and the rest just sinks down. I used the same system the whole time I was at the University!

Kim,

Its bad when you are "forced" to clean a portion of desktop so that the computer monitor has a firm foundation to set on. What can I say other than I'm a technical design engineer and cannot design a self cleaning office space :>)

So Kim, how does your important stuff rise to the top?? Mine sinks to the bottom!!!

Jay, you are my inspiration for organizing! It sounds like I have more in common in this realm with Diane, though, cuz my desks, both computer and business, are always a mess. I do feel really good when they're organized, but that is indeed seldom. Am working on the subconscious motivation for this! I also manage to collect a pile of reading material on my bed, cuz I read most when I awake and retire, and am usally reading four or five books at a time, plus catchin up on my newspapers. I sometimes get complaints about bumps in the night from stuff fallin off my bed.

By the by, Jay, I just love the way you keep us up to date on your projects, and your feelings; is it possible that from your pain you have found some new ways to open up to people? I for one feel very much closer to you.

Love,

EM,

I am no ones inspiration. When I have to move location to clean up an office thats "chronic clutter" :>)

Hi. My name is Alison and I am a chronic Clutterbug. I try to tidy..really I do!! But some stuff is just not disposible..what if I need it someday? I..I really want to declutter but its sooo haaarrrds..sniff sniff? This is where you all say "There there. We are here for you" and stuff like that. :o)

We can be with you in spirit only as we are buried under clutter :>) Odd thing of it I have learned to use my clutter as a filing system. Spooky, don't you think?

-- Anonymous, January 14, 2002

The worst thing is when someone does me the "favor" of straightening up my clutter! I can't find anything for weeks!

EM,

You and I must surely have our roots in a common astral plane. My ex knew to screw me up all she had to do was put something on my pile and transfer a call to my office :>)

Heck, when something is importent at my house it gets a big box with a lid and a hastily scribbled note on the front and top of the box. Our house is filled with boxes stashed out of reach of little Ruthie saying things like "importent papers", "almost importent papers", "pocket change", "gloves", "registrations" (which means everything from the cars title to Molly the goats registration papers), and etc. Anyone else with odd organization techniques??

Jay, did you really forget your desk had wood grain?? LOL. Maybe you should move a flourescent lamp and a few plants to your new office so you dont go through homesickness for "he rainforest".

Peace to all, and especially Diana, Jay, and Earthmama today.

Yes, Mrs. Puck, I did forget that we wood veniered the top with poly coated door skin after the grey vinyl mat deteriorated during an unsuccessful small scale bio-diesel titration practice procedure. Oops:>)

Thanks so much for thinkin of me Marty! You have a great day too!

You'll do great in school. I've taken lots of classes over the years, and found I really enjoyed them compared to when I was forced to in high school. Course I only took the ones I wanted to. But school is much easier when you're older I think. You dont have as many social distractions, have developed some kind of work ethic, and probably know yourself better than when you were a kid.

Knock em dead! Just dont get yourself so busy that you get stressed for time and startlosing yourself.

Love,
