What is aluminum recycling like in your area?(Reduce/Reuse/Recycle)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

The market is so bad in my area four of the five recycling centers have shutdown temporarily and the remaining one isn't accepting cans. Guess I'm going to smelt mine into ingots while I wait for it to come back . Whas it like in your areas?

The going price, which is a little higher for our Boy Scouts than for the transients, has dropped from 43 cents/lb last summer to 25 cents/ lb 2 weeks ago. I normally tke in 6-8 garbage bags full from the lunchroom at work, and some of my coworkers bring me theirs (I don't spend money on colas!) and I pick up aluminum cans when I see them on my walks. We use the $$ to help fund my attendance at Summer Camp, since we are in financial straits for the last 4 years. This was the first years we were going to have a summer camp charge under $200 and the first year I hoped to do it solely on cans, but I dunno anymore...

When the center closest to me shut down tw months ago , the price was 22 cents.

The buyer in my area in central Indiana is paying .30 a pound. It is my opinion that he uses this as a 'loss leader' to keep people coming back with other scrap metals. His price never really seems to fluxuate much.

Hi Jay, Well our recycler went under about three weeks ago. It's a forty mile drive to Panama city to recycle now. Bummer had a whole winter's worth of beer cans, guess I'll start making my own beer. Daryll

Must not be very good here in Oklahoma either since there are cans laying everywhere on the roadsides. If the prices are good you can throw a can out the window while traveling down the road and somebody will grab it before it hits the ground.

you get .95-1.00 a lb in California at present. California Department of Conservation reimburses the recycler 71 cents of that.

Price depends on whether your states charge a deposit or not.
