water cells (Hogs)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I bought two pigs and got one for free because she has a "water cell". The pig guy says it is a fluid filled cell that happened because of something with her ribs when they were forming. She is growing and the lump is not. She eats well, her eyes are clear, and all seems well. The pig guy says that the meat will be fine. Does anyone know of this? It is on her underside on one side one her chest. Looks like a lump. That is why I call her "lumpy", affectionatley so. hehe

Response to water cells

She will be fine and it might even heal itself. Is it on her chest or more like on her belly? If it is on her belly, it is what we call a rupture and is more of a hernia. 9 out of 10 hernias heal themselves when you put the pigs out on the dirt. If it is the water cell thing, it will probably be alright as long as she doesn't poke something in it or break it wrestling with her pen mate. I'll check with my hubby when he come in for lunch---- he is the pig expert with a PhD in animal science.

My hubby, the pig man, says that if she is growing and the cell thing is not, that it is probably just some sort of benign abcess and it will be fine. Good luck!
