Where is your faith?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

This is from one of Laines Letters I was reading this morning. When I am cleaning, I will often take a little break and read just one of here old letters, and reflect upon it. This was in one of the letters I was reading earlier, and I thought it was very striking. Where do you place your faith? It is easy to place your faith in many things besides Jesus! Sometimes you place your faith in your spouse, or in your money, or in yourself, but what happens when these things are taken away? Then you will see that the only one you truly need to have faith in is your Lord!! I read a quote once that said, "Sometimes we must lose it all to see that Jesus is all we need"

From here on is from Laines Letters:

"My faith is not in my homemaking. My faith is not in my homeschooling. My faith is not in my marriage. My faith is not in my children's obedience. My faith is not in our bank account. My faith is not in my country. My faith is not in myself or in others.

My faith is in Jesus Christ and His Shed blood on the cross. My faith is in His Word. The absolute, authoritative Word of God. Everything else is a product of that Great, Great Foundation. So if I lost my homemaking, my homeschooling, my marriage, my children's obedience, my bank account, or my country, Jesus Christ will continue to hold up His Servant. Jesus Christ will continue to infuse His great, great love and eternal grace. Jesus Christ will never leave me, nor forsake me. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

You know, I have lost everything(and more except my country)that she mentions in the above. And she's right. Jesus is still there, even when I didn't want Him. When I think back about some of the situations I was in, oh my, it was only by God's grace that I lived (literally) to tell about them. Thank you Jesus, and thanks Melissa for posting this.

Thanks for reminding me to get back to that website--it's amazing. It was a godsend when you wrote about her Thanksgiving letter.
