more questions about highland cattle

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I sure do appriciate all of the very helpful comments but i have a couple of other questions about highland cattle. I have about 8 acres of over grown weeds it's pretty junky looking, would that be alright for them to graze on because i've heard that they can eat just about anything. or should i provide them with good pasture or hay? and anyother tips and suggestions on caring for them thank you.

Tim, I believe there are some disussions about Highland Cattle on this forum previously. I could be wrong, just remember seeing the pictures and noticing how interesting they are. Would you be able to find a website about them maybe? Good Luck with them, what interesting cattle, neat looking too! LQ

PS...also you might check out Plum Creek Ranch, they raise them and maybe would be fun to talk to them and check out their website. LQ

You might be better off with a combination of sheep and goats, grazers and browsers, if you're interested in upgrading and maintaining the pasture.
