The following were readings used during the psychodynamic section of my first Master's level Theories course in Counseling Psychology:

1. Drive, Ego, Object, and Self: A Synthesis for Clinical Work by Fred Pine.

2. "Psychologies of Identity and Self: Erik Erikson and Heinz Kohut", p. 149-169 of chapter 6 in Freud and Beyond by Stephen A. Mitchell and Margaret J. Black.

3. "Heinz Kohut and Carl Rogers: A Timely Comparison" by E. Kahn from 1985 Volume 40 #8 of American Psychologist, p. 893-904.

4. "The Disorders of the Self and Their Treatment: An Outline" by H. Kohut and E.S. Wolf from 1978 Volume 59 of International Journal of Psychoanalysis, p. 413-425.

A new biography that might help has recently been published: Charles B. Strozier, _Heinz Kohut: The Making of a Psychoanalyst_, New York, Farrar, Strauss and Giroux, 2001.
