If y'all don't hear from me......

Its snowing out, its well over an inch for just about an hour or so. We heard "chance of snow, no accumulation" My darling and I remember clearly a few years ago hearing those exact words, it preceded to snow two feet and we were without power, water etc snowed in for ten days! At the end of the fourth day a couple of National Guardsmen came by in a Hum_Vee, by then we had dug out our driveway and were quite comfortable. Now, chances are it won't happen again, but if it does, I want you all to know that I broke my tightwad pledge (we had some extra money come our way this week)and I stocked way up. I have lots of yarn and chocolate and clean underwear. I'm ready!!!!!!!

I know that some of you think that two feet of snow is nothing, but this is the South-the land without snowplows. It is so pretty out!!

Whats it like tonight in your neck of the woods?

Cold and getting colder, but we may set a record this year and go the longest without going below zero. We have had snow the last 3 days and that is ok. I see winter as being a lot shorter this year. We have had such a nice winter. Several years ago we were also told we would not get much snow and it was 3 days before anyone went anywhere, fortunately we were ready for it and we were one of the lucky ones we did not lose our electricity. We had family visiting (ended up three days longer than they planned on) and three small kids bottled up in one house and believe me that 3 days was long enough. We spent the third day outside having a good time in the deep snow. Glad you are totally prepared for this snow if it gets deep in your area again. Jenn

Sure glad we live in the DEEP South and are only supposed to get a bunch of downpours this Saturday..I left my snowshoes in PA along with the snow shovels and the snow boots, and the dry peeling skin..LOL.......

We have about 2 inches of the white stuff on the ground right now and it sure looks like we will get more. The clouds look heavy with snow! Kelly we have snow plows in this part of Ky.! Maybe you just don't live close enough to a big town. We are 30 miles from Lexington and they always get the roads plowed and salted in 24 hours or so. WE live on a state road and while it is not a priority they usually get to it pretty quick. Usually by the second day it is clear unless that is if we get a very large amount of snow and/or ice. I'd love to see about 2 feet myself. I can say that now that I don't have to get out in it to go to work!!!

Barb-Where DO you live?-I've been trying to puzzle that out. We were 30 minents out of Lexington when we got hit by the two feet of snow. We used to live six miles south of Berea, sort of North East of Renfro Valley, of course that was, let's see, five years ago. Yes, there are snow plows, and they do keep major roads open-they would be quick to get your state road I suppose, but now we are way out in the boonies-we are a mile off a county road.

Barb-I appologise, I shouldn't have asked where you live. After an experience I had on another forum, there's no way now I would tell where I live except in most general terms. I have an idea, where you are and that's all I need to know.

By the way. We have four inches here-its sunny now my husband went in to work and called back to say the roads were clear, and we still have power. The kids are thrilled-a four day holiday for them-Monday is MLK day, and of course the snow, theyve allready been out, made a fort, got totally soaked, came in and had Hot Cocoa-a great day! I'm going to make a BIG pot of Vegtable soup.....They are calling for "rain snow or sleet tonight though.... could get messy.

Snow? Whats that? Here in south Texas, it is noon time and 83 degrees. Cold front coming in though, might get as low as 52 for the low!

Another person at CS forum just posted a really good idea; typing WHERE you live after your name will tell everyone where your residence / homestead is, and will give the responder more information if their advice would work in their region.

Henceforth, my name is now j.r. guerra in s. tx. (as least as long as I remember to type it).

I just heard there are 4 to 8 inches of the white stuff headed our way tonight off of a front coming out of Texas and the gulf. 83 degrees, that's unfair! It's 30 here right now which actually feels pretty warm after the single digits we had a couple of weeks ago. I guess God knows if I didn't have cold weather, I wouldn't fully appreciate the warm weather he sends us. Besides, it takes the cold to kill off some of the bugs and keeps most of the poisonous snakes away! When I lived in Florida many many years ago there were cockroaches so big they could almost walk off with your house! I think I'd rather have a season of cold than that!!

The Missouri Ozark's are suppose to get up to 7" tonight and maybe some sleet like someone else said got stoacked up on chocolate, yarn and a good book I'm ready for anything. Wood stocked piled up by the back door and my weaving loom ready to hum. When we lived up-upstate NY we were 17 days with no power glad we were winter ready and as snug as a bug. Isn't oil lamps and a wood stove wonderful. Have fun in the snow I know I will if it happens. Sally
