Grits - Make them or bulk source

Has anyone ever made grits from scratch? If that is not possible, does anyone know where there is a source of bulk grits?

Marci- I make grits in my grain mill. I move the mill setting to coarse and add the corn berries. This makes delicious yellow grits. They do not taste like store bought, more of a corn taste. They also take longer to cook, so what I do is put them on before I go to bed in a crockpot (4c. water to 1 c grits), they are perfect in the a.m. Lynelle

Another idea for corn grits. If you have any left over (I cook extra for this) pour them out onto an oiled cookie sheet about 1/2-1/4" thick and allow to cool. Cut onto squares, oil the pan again and bake them at 350 until crispy-tada polenta! You can top it with whatever you like, we like them with marinara sauce.

Lynelle, are you using dent corn or popcorn to make them? You don't have to do anything to it before you grind it?
