I'm a proud mother!!!! (of adopted nubian baby)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We just purchased a 3wk old Nubian buck!!!! Don't get too upset yet... he was already being bottle fed from day 1, so that's why they were selling him so early. He's beautiful!!! His front half is light beige, back half a little darker, has white ears and a dark dorsal stripe. He is our first purebred Nubian and we are so excited. Most of our other goats are Nubian/Alpine cross and we have 2 Togg/Nubian crosses. Just wanted to express my happiness!!! I wish I knew how to put a picture on here... we don't have a website yet.

Email me your picture and I'll put it on here for you. I have a domain with it's own Countryside folder. We have 4 little bucks, 2 white and 2 black, love those kids.

Forget the picture, whats the pedigree :) Congrats Sharon! I remember very well my first purchase of my first really good buck. He was 9 weeks old and came home in the back of a 2 door Toyota from Northern Oklahoma to Houston Texas in the back seat in my lap! :) Vicki

Congratulations--and to concur with Westbrook--he is disbudded right? I have TWO Nubian bucks (had an Alpine--he died), but all three had horns--I didn't realize how important it was to have their horns removed (they were too old to disbud when I got them). They are several years old now and the one has HUGE horns. We are very cautious around him--he's a big sweetheart (until rut). I could write a book about the escapes, horns, etc. We got smarter, but definitely learned the hard way. My females have horns too, but are not near so threatening to us. Enjoy--nothing sweeter than a goat kid.

Sharon, Congrats on your new baby. I love Nubians and remember my first Purebred buck from SmokeyDale Farms in western Kansas. He was a beauty and lucked out on the bloodlines as I knew nothing about that stuff at the time.

Yes he's disbudded, they gave me the option (they waited a little late in my opinion) and I said PLEASE! As for his parents, his mom had very good udder attachment and placement she was a strange color of grays with large tan spots and creme colored patches. That's the best discription I can give. I didn't get to see the buck, they had already sold him for some new blood in their herd. They say he was a rich red color. We don't raise goats for milk or show, just for pleasure. We are soon adding Myotonic goats to our herd (and no, we will NOT be eating them, though it's fine that others do.... I could never eat anything that I raised myself).

Sharon might want to sign up at Chevon Talk, they are ran by the guru of Myotics! Vicki

Sheila, I don't have pics of my own babies yet, but my site is Solid Rock Ranch

There are lots of pics of all the critters and farm.

Cindy, I like your website! Lots of cute graphics. You have some very nice looking goats. I just had my first babies of the year born yesterday! One of my Alpine/Nubian does had triplets! 2 bucks and a doe. We have another doe due any day, 2 more due in Feb. and 2 due in March. :o) I'm beginning to get stressed out.... :o)
