[From St. Angela:] "If any person, because of his state in life, cannot do without wealth and position, let him at least keep his heart empty of the love of them."

St. John Chrysostom, Bishop, Confessor, Doctor of the Church, Ora Pro Nobis.

-- jake (j@k.e), January 27, 2004.

Lest anyone misinterpret the post above as an indication that the whole Catholic Church observes the memorial of St. John Chrysostom on January 27 ...

His day of memorial for at least 98% of Catholics is September 13 (confirmed here). However, about 2% of Catholics (those in most of the Eastern churches) recall the translation (transfer) of the saint's relics, from one burial place to another, on January 27, about thirty years after his death. They also celebrate their main memorial of the saint on January 30.

My posts on these saints-of-the-day threads have always reflected celebrations according to the current calendar of the Latin "ritual church" within Catholicism, simply because about 98% of Catholics pertain to that Latin (Western) church. This is not intended with any disrespect toward the equally Catholic people of the Eastern churches, but only to avoid confusion.

On these threads, Eastern Catholics are encouraged to identify their ritual churches by name and to mention additional saint(s) or events (not mentioned by me above) that are commemorated on their ritual churches' calendars.
