7,000-Pound Satellite Falling To Earth

NASA Unsure Where Object May Land

WASHINGTON -- A 7,000-pound satellite is falling from the sky this week.

NASA said a few pieces of metal could hit the Earth, although probably not in a populated area. No one knows exactly where it will fall.

The Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer is falling at the rate of 15 miles a day from an orbit of about 124 miles up in the sky.

It's expected to come down Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

It's going to start breaking apart when it hits the upper edge of the atmosphere, about 50 miles high.

Most of the spacecraft is expected to burn up in the atmosphere.

But NASA engineers said it's possible that up to nine stainless steel and titanium pieces -- weighing up to 100 pounds -- will reach the Earth's surface.

With all that has happened to this house lately do you think that crap will miss us?

SAR,

It's gray here today as well, but not due to the fog. It's raining hard, and freezing when it hits. So far, about 8000 are without power around here. I'm waiting for it to happen to me. I'm trying to determine if I should move Hubby's new car from where he parked it for me. He moved it up and out of my way so that I wouldn't have any problems. Unfortunately, it is sort of under a tree that is building ice quickly. If I move it, I'm not sure that I can find a place that won't be under a tree, with the exception of the garage, and well that belongs to the dogs when they aren't in the house. I'd hate to move it in the garage, just in case they scratched it. What to do, what to do....

I'm not worried, just heard nothing falling farther north than Orlando, Florida. (Hope it avoids Mailman's new tiles...)

BrookS,

Maybe it'll take out my ex (who lives in Orlando!) I did say that, but I don't really mean it.... or do I?

My weather bug thingie is really going off, they just upped the watch to a warning. and it is like walking through soup to get to the barn, I shut the boys in for the night, more work for me in the morning, but stall cleaning never bothered me.

Apoc, we have the "nice" car we park in the garage for the winter months...(still looks new) but I get looks that the garage is the kennel, and it is... When the car is parked, we have quilts and the a regular car cover for it, and OF COURSE they all think that means they get to sleep on it. you look out there are kitties on the roof and abbie "happy" dog is propped up on the windshield.

yes, we have a zoo....

Well, the house is still here, so I guess that means the satellite missed us.

How'd we get so lucky, I wonder?
