greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

My Friend who was married for approximately 6 yrs. is in the process of getting a divorce due to her wanting a family oriented life & him wanting to live the single partying life but rarely family life. They have Her & her husband have been separated for a year. In the time she became separated she met a person who has had an extremely postive effect on her & her daughter's life. She wants to convert to the Catholic religion, she had her 1st RCIA class the other night & in almost a years time - she is the happiest I've ever seen her & I've been close friend with her for 5 yrs. She mentioned that her & her new companion have discussed marriage. She wants to marry in the catholic church as well as baptise her daugther catholic. How would she proceed in obtaining an annullment? I know it would be required & would her soon-to-be ex-husband have to do anything?

Tell your friend to go and talk to the local Catholic Priest. He will get her started in the right direction.

God bless, Fr. Ray

Adrienne, Hi, my name is Joel. Have you considered recommending marriage counseling for your friend and her husband? Divorce is a terrible thing and should not be taken lightly, even by calling it annulment. Just a thought, but encourage her to hold her marriage together, with help from God.

Joel,

Don't answer questions that are asking for Catholic advice. You are not Catholic!

Good evening, Fr. Burkle. Welcome to the forum!

This little hideaway has existed for four years now, but the visits from Catholic priests have been few and far between -- unless some had come here and avoided using the title, "Father."

Our last "Father So-and-so" came between six and twelve months ago, but did not stay more than a day, because (sadly) he revealed himself to be a dissenter. I don't think that you are one of those, right, Father? Didn't you once have an Internet site of your own? (I can't seem to find it.) Are you still at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jewell, Iowa?

Please come back any time.
God bless you.
John

Joel,

An annulment is not a Catholic divorce.

And Welcome to Fr. Burkle.
