When to Water? (Story Plot) (Pasture)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Dear Friends of the Forum,

I am a writer who, in Chapter One, has a horse in a small (one acre) paddock/pasture in California. The owner waters a "green spot," for her horse to graze, for "psychological purposes"(having his nose to the ground), while his main diet is alfalfa hay. What time of day does she turn on the irrigation?

Thanks, Qz

I would think about sundown to avoid evaporation and it would take a horse about1/2 an hour to ruin a spot the size of a lawn sprinklers circle.

Is this a quiz or some type of brian teaser? My answer would be to divide the pasture in 2 and alternate the horse to a different area every week. Mitch is right. The water area would turn to mud.
