Patron Saint of Beer

I was originally going to post this undedr the Serious Stuff category, because beer is sreious stuff. But, on later reflection, and a few beers later, thought it might be better under silly.

Patron Saint of Beer

If anyone here cares for beer, please list your favorite as I am always looking for a good brew. I am currently sipping on a Hobgoblin Imported English Ale that is one of my favorites.

From their site:

"Hobgoblin is a powerful full-bodied copper red, well-balanced brew. Strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end."

Truly a fine beer if you can find it.

Practically, I just prefer my beer wet.

Dry beer just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. 8<)

This, of course, from somebody who doesn't cook.

Nice resturant/microbrewery in Macon had a "sample" platter of theier nine beers, each a half glass. The best of the nine were the slightly sweet, lightly flavored ones. I had expected to prefer the darker, more bitter brews - cause that's what I usually "sample" when dining out, but trying all nine at the same time was a surprise.

The fruity ones were good too - I didn't expect that.

Well, I already got in trouble over at Unk's for pointing out that beer is just yeast potty, so I won't do it here.

CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE BEER DRINKER---- Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Welllll, I agree with Helen :-)

I do have one nice thing to say about beer: It tastes better than (i.e. not as bad as) it smells!

However, I do enjoy wine, and I'll be sure to drink a toast to all my cyber-buddies who wanted to join me in Florida and weren't able to. And I'll write a postcard and maybe some highku (the kind that I write after wine :-) when I return.

Here's a haiku for all my (many) fans ;-)

.

Leave frigid weather

Fly south for a vacation

Smile at warm bright sun :-)

.

Small bird's happy chirp

"We survived nasty cold spell"

Warmer weather here now.

Helen, I'm glad you restrained yourself. Otherwise I would be most upset.

Anyway, speaking of beer, one of my favorites, St. Stan's, has disappeared from the stores I patronize. And Abita also. It used to be that one could find Abita all over the place. What's going on? Who's covering up?

Tricia,

We'll all hold our breath until ya get back and give a new haiku, Florida inspired of course! Here's hoping you all are having the time of your life!

Waiting impatiently for a full report.

Full report?

Like, no tan lines full report?

Lon Frankenstein is NOT going to be happy about missing that.

Peter,

Seems that St. Stan's and Abita are closed. St Stan's website has not been updated in 2 years, and Abita's site is down. Just when you get a favorite brewery like that, they close.

Tricia,

And you call yourself a Canuck? What would Bob and Doug Mackenzie say?

Actually beer is just as diverse as wine, with a myriad of flavors. There is nothing like a good stout or porter on a cold winter night. When it comes to wine, I prefer a nice merlot, or some other full bodied red wine.

Robert,

One of my seasonal favorites is Crooked River Pumpkin Ale. You can actually taste the pumpkin spices in it, and it really surprised me the first time I tried it how good it was. I don't like my beer too fruity, but I ocassionally come across a raspberry ale that is well balanced.

-- SteveOH (thegoofycat@hotmail.com), February 08, 2002.

I didn't even know that beer came in fruity flavours! I thought it just came in hops and barley :-)

Haiku will appear on another channel (thread).

Now, helen ... THIS is a beer thread for brewing threads!
