update on sexual harrasment, keeps getting better and better

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

As most will remember, I lost my job in Dec. after the man I was working for fired me after being turned down by his advances and me finding out of his drug usage. I had pretty much decided to let it go, and to move on with my own life[started the rabbit business] Last week I received a phone call from another employee that was just fired also. She is willing to substantiate the same claims. She was fired after walking into the office while he was smoking out of a glass pipe. The next day she was terminated. I also found out that this man told all his employees and salesmen that I dealt with that he fired me because " I was stealing thousands of dollars from him" Yah right, I was finding descrepencies in the books and was telling him there was a problem. I am sure now that he was taking the money for his own drug use. At this point the Civil Liberties Commision is investigating, unemployment has been approved, and a police report has been filed. I am looking for a lawyer for information on defamation of character. I still have not received w-2 forms and if not here by today am contacting the IRS. I really dont care if I receive a dime out of this. I want his business shut down.

Tracy,

Hope you do beat this arrogant person (I wanted to say something else). People who are as arrogant as this do not deserve to reap the benefits of a business. They steal money from their own company, and then have the gall to blame an employee. They treat their employees like expendable commodities. They know that employees can be replaced if they do not "go along with what is going on", so they do it. I admire your courage in dealing with this situation. I also agree that money is not the primary goal, but justice and truth are. God bless.

Talk to you later.

Tracy,

Go for the throat on it. It's not like you still work under him. Sad part about S-H is it is not gender oriented anymore. I had to file a total of eight complaints against female managers and coworkers during my tenure, three were repeat violations. While comparing notes with females that filed, we found the women were more agressive in their harrasment of male employees. Some would think it odd that a man would seek equity through s-h protection, but I can tell you it can strain a marriage no matter what your gender.

Don't forget to notify the state also. They are getting cheated on their taxes also. Frequently the state will act quicker than the Feds. While you are 'going for the throat' write your congressman, tell hem how you are concerned that your social security payments are not being made under your number. S/He will jump on the social security folks and the place will be closed fairly quickly or the individual will be removed

I would deal with the individual, if you draw in the authorities, the other emploies loose their jobs and security, maybe pensions, seniority, ect.

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), February 02, 2002.

Mitch,

Deal with the individual? He is an drugie who is stealing from the company. You may turn a check but I vote for throwing him in a rehabilitation center (jail).

He is also stealing from you and I. Those are our tax dollars he is taking.

I do not know what state Tracy is in, I do not know what laws apply, I do know that closeing a company hurts more than the owner. Suppose the company has 200 employies; are you going to punish those 200 for the sins of one? Supose it is 2000, same question? Open your mind, learn to think......What about the companies that this company supplies; what if it is the people who make the drugs that keep your loved ones alive.....your blind appraoach does not seen appropiate here. Tracys male family members could do a hiney whoopin'; this would work better than your approach even if it was politically incorrectness as a main feature. Do not drag "big brother into anything" that can be handeled more correctly. Apparently, your are to young to remember how thing worked before the "my dog is bigger than your dog" mentallity came along.

I am in PA but the state that I worked was OH, I live 3 miles from the line. Place of employment was 14 miles. Very close for my rural area. The idea of kicking but crossed my mind, but will not help future employees.I did receive w-2 today and filed my taxes. The thing that has upset me the most was the acusation on theft. I have never stole anything. To me that was the straw that broke the camels back. How in the world can these kind of people live with a clean contience? This is not a huge corporation, it is a single owner that has 10 employees.

-- tracy (murfette@stargate.net), February 02, 2002.

O.K., Lets assume 10 employiees, maybe 8 spouses, 30 children; your actions will affect them a lot; is that enought to shut down the place? Why did you just not slap him aside the head, place a well amimed kick, regain your dignetey, and stomp out of the place, cussing the SOB? That has worked well in the past, this forum does not claim to be your daddy and will not act as him so stop bring "Daddy questions" here. Women, grow up, CYA, get tough - like the women were when I was a pup. Direct works when your talking to men, anything less is easy to misunderstand.

Mitch, at first I hought your reply was dardar, but upon consideration... I saw this couple, 25 or so, 2 kids in the back seat, pull up on the grocery store parking lot the other day. I had the seat reclined, and it was dark, so they never knew I was there. At any rate, the two of these folks chopped out a line and snorted it- right there in front of their kids! I ALMOST jumped out and called the cops, this is sad, because the cops, if they found the duo guilty, the kids would have it rough, etc. But I came up with a better plan. Sneak down to their house with a couple cans of white road paint spray paint. Paint on their new, dark green corolla: "I do drugs in front of my kids" down both sides of the car. Best damn case of vandalism I've yet to think up. Maybe it will scare them outa doing that crap. Yep, you should slapped the snot out of him and walked, you will be affecting alot of people now. (rattle rattle goes the little steel ball)

For what its worth.... My daughter has a friend who recently worked for a man in a small company. Some of the employees were concerned that he was into drugs and skimming the profits...they were watching things. But it didn't prevent him from skipping town, with their pay!

-- ro (dawn2amber@yahoo.com), February 03, 2002.

If Tracy doesn't look out for herself no one else will. Also, chances are in that small of a company OTHERS knew what was going on and chose to turn a deaf ear, so they in a way are accomplices....

People can always get other jobs. I wouldn't want to work for such a loser, if other people do, too bad....

If I remember correctly, Tracy put in months of twelve hour days to establish the business in question. When she had it up and going, slimeball wanted her to come across for him another way. She told him that she would prefer to keep their relationship on a business basis, he spent a week assuring himself he could really do without her, then fired her. There are just two protagonists: the "entrepreneur" and druggie and basically user who kicked the business off, and Tracy who really established the business. There may be others who are now employed by this sleazeball, but they are newly employed, and it's obvious they won't be employed long - most of the business profits will disappear up scumbag's nose, and one way or another the employees will get screwed and won't get paid for the privilege.

The people employed in this enterprise will be better off if authorities are watching closely - more chance that some of the assets will stay under control, so some of their pay will reach them.

-- Don Armstrong (darmst@yahoo.com.au), February 03, 2002.

Don, you are correct. More like 16 hour days getting the business established. Mitch, I am not asking for this forum to play "daddy." When I originally posted what happened to me I had a lot of support from people on this forum. I was planning on letting it go until it happened to someone else also. Now there is more than 1 persons word against another. Like I said, the straw that broke the camels back was him calling me a thief. This is something that I wont tolerate. If I was ever to decide to get back into management and had to deal with salepeople again there will always be a doubt about me because of another persons lie. Would you want your daughter working for him???

-- tracy (murfette@stargate.net), February 03, 2002.

If this guy had done it to 2 employees in 6 months he will likely do it to the others, as well. It's just a matter of time. Sometimes there is no good answer, unless this guy works for someone else.

-- Terri (hooperterri@prodigy.net), February 03, 2002.

Tracy, have you contacted the Federal govt (eeoc) Equal Employment Opportunity Commission? That is probably the best agency to get involved in this since you've decided to pursue this. They have pretty good lawyers, won't cost you anything.

What's this guy smoking? The police won't be concerned much about cannabis but I'm sure they'd like to know if he's involved smoking coke or meth. Smoking weed doesn't lead people to stealing and erratic behavior(unless they already have some other problem) so I'm assuming it's drugs he's smoking. I'd take whatever information you have to the local police. It may be helpful to them, not just in regards to him but his source. He may never change but at least it could lead to getting some drug dealers out of your area. Any information you could give your local narcotics investigator would probably be very appreciated.

-- Dave (something@somewhere.com), February 03, 2002.

I found out it is cyrstal meth. I have notified the police. They told me because of the civil litigation pending that it looks like that is why I am filing the report. What?? The civil rights commision [simmilar to EOC] was the ones that told me to notify the police. Also the EOC will only handle complaints if the employer has more than 15 employees, he does not. Thanks for the words of support.
