Threshing & winnowing

I am growing three acres of grain and am looking for a small portable "combine". Which I can handfeed into. I can't find any for sale anywhere. Please advise.

Roger, such things do exist as I have seen them in countries such as Egypt.

Maybe this is an opportunity to look at other machines that might do at least part of the job, for example what would happen if one was to put grain heads and something heavy (blocks of wood for example) into a cement mixer?

See if your local library can borrow a copy of Tools for Homesteaders, Gardeners and Small-Scale Farmers: A catalog of hard-to- find implements and equipment, 1978. There is a chapter on Gleaning Grains and Seeds. Here are the U.S. sources listed, but bear in mind the catalog I have dates from 1978:

Burrows Equipment Co., 1316 Sherman Avenue, Evanston, IL 60204

Seedburo Equipment Co., 1022 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607

Chain Mfg. Co., 112 N. Kansas Avenue, Haven, KS 67543

K.E.M. Corp., Box 471, Haven, KS 67543

ALMACO, Allan Machine Co., P.O. Box 112, Ames, IA 50010

Swanson Machine Co., 24-26 E. Columbia Ave., Champaign, IL 61820

3 acres of small grains is about 3 tonnes? that's a lot to do by hand........... I wonder if you could find an old Massey combine and get the rethreshing mill off the side and fabricate a stationary thresher! I'll look at mine and see if it's feasable.

Is buying a combine totally out of the question? An AC All Crop can usually be had for about $400 to $600. I see the older tractor drawn combines like the All Crop come up for sale sometimes. Not often, but they do.

Have you checked to see if someone in your area can combine it for you?

May not be a source, but Mr. Canales may have seen something at a show.
