WebLogs useful for homestead diaries/libraries?

The BBC, http://news.bbc.co.uk/ 4 Feb. 2002 web site, has an article titled, “How to Start a WebLog” which states: Weblogs are earning a reputation as a useful means of storing information, like a personal library where you can file away interesting snippets that you might like to return to another day. This BBC article links to BBC Web Wise, http://www.bbc.co.uk/webwise/guides/weblog/weblog3.shtml and here one finds: Pitas (www.pitas.com) is extremely simple to use, and requires no knowledge of publishing or special software - you can do everything through your web browser.

So, has anyone tried this weblog technique as a way to create a personal library or homestead diary? This seems to offer an easy way to create an online way to share or log and preserve your thoughts, favorite web site/sources, or writing as someone was asking about.

As you can see from my BBC Web Wise, above, not working, my ability to do html coding is not something to brag about.
