Update on Ketchen Light

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

We found a hallogen bar light-has three separate small lights and a hi-lo dimmer switch, can be direct-wired, which is what we wanted. It's for under cabinet use and a bronze color. We found it at a lighting store. It cost more than a flourescent, but I didn't want one of those.

I have flourescents in my kitchen, and I replaced the bulbs recently with those "natural" bulbs that are supposed to light more like incandencents (sp?). They cost more, but boy, do they make a difference. I hated those flourescents before, but I don't feel as "stuck" with them as before!

Cindy I think you have the wrong apinion of florestant lighting..It is supposed to be the most natural lighting there is and I use it in my kitchen and really love it..Also my attic is lighted with it and my tool room in the basement....But halogen lighting is very hot as to floresant which does not throw out hardly any heat at all...

Bob, I don't like flourescent lights because they effect the nervous system, I know, over the stove wouldn't be a problem that way. Hallogen light is hotter but more like natural sunlight and mostly, when you put a light above the stove, it gets greasy. Most floureescent lights have ridged plastic covers. No matter what I clean them with or how hard I clean them, the grease never comes off completely. This new light has a flat metal surface, this one won't be seen as easily since it's not white and a hi-lo dimmer switch, I like that idea. We do have flourescent lights in the attic and when Gary gets his workshop/garage, I know he'll have them in there. God Bless

I just would like to know any there any reason to belive that flourescent light burn cost less to operate than hallogen lights.
