Book on Websites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Yesterday I went to the Library and was browsing through the section that covered anything to do with computers and came across a very interesting book..The title of the book was Harley Hahn's Internet Web Yellow Pages 1999 Edition..After checking it out and bringing it home I found that it contained every subject you would ever want to find on the Internet..It was truly amazing and contained 905 pages of information..Also checking on tthe back of the book I found that it also carried a very hefty price tag...$34.95..But at least I will have a place to look the next time I need a search engine, and not for Mitches stumpers either...I have my own library of information for that..LOL

There are a number of "web directories" they are however usually out of date. Web sites come and go (manly go as of late). Pick a search engine if you want to find something on the web.

How do you pick a search engine...By listing the subject and hitting the search key?????

You can do it that way, or there are many others. On 1st.net if you click Search at the beginning page it will show a list of search engines from Alta Vista (I think ) to Yahoo. Just click on one then type in what you want to search for. Google is good also www.google.com The kids like www.askjeeves.com

Probably others know many more.

Go to www.google.com , www.yahoo.com www.dogpile.com or /www.northernlight.com/ Each of these are good search engines, In the order listed. Each has its own nitch. Each will have a text box to put in a search request. Enter some info about what your looking for an hit enter. You will get pages of options to look through. You might have to narrow down your search if its to broad. Searching for Cars is a bit broad, but searching for Brown cars in ohio would further narrow down your search.
