A brief observation on silly language

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Troll-free Private Saloon : One Thread

I flipped past CSPAN this morning. Apparently the etiquette is for a male Congressperson to refer to a female Congressperson as a "gentlelady" as if that term had parity with "gentleman".

This is absurd. "Lady" and "Gentleman" have parity. "Man" and "Woman" have parity. "Gentlelady" has PC silliness.

Lars, I have known gentlemen and you are no gentleman.

I would consider Barbara Lee neither (a gentlelady nor a lady)!

Yet to meet a gentlelady but then I'm young.
