slaw

does anyone know of some kind of gadget I can buy to shred cabbage for slaw? I don't like slaw that's real fine. I've been slicing the cabbage with a knife but I can't get it thin enough and I don't like the way a hand held grater does either. guess I'm too fussy.

A "food processor" is the way to go. You will be in conrol as to how fine the cabbage ends up. Be sure and cut cabbage into slices and cross slice plus put in small amounts at a time for consistency or the bottom of the bowl will be finer than cabbage on top.

Pulse a few times and you will have the size cabbage shreds you wish.

I use a cabbage board, you might look for one on e-bay. The one I have looks homemade. It is made by a board with two sharp blades that you slide the cabbage over. I can make 10 gallons of sauerkraut in about 10 minutes with this contraption.
