Just got a new VCR and tried to record from another VCR to that one. (Manual doesn't show how to do that -- just how to record from TV.)

Anyone know if VCRs are now made so you cannot record from one VCR to another?

Anyone know of a good website that might have such information?

Thats easy to do. All you need are cables that go from audio out on the playing vcr to audio in on the recording vcr, and cables that go from video out on the playing vcr to the video in on the recording vcr. Then you hook the vcr that is being recorded on to the audio/video in on the tv, like you normally would hookup a vcr. They have yellow, red, white ones cables. There may be some dark/light spots on the recorded to tape if recorded from a purchased prerecorded tape. Hope this helps.

Logic would tell me to connect the output jacks on the source VCR to the input jacks on the target VCR and play the source VCR tape while hitting the 'record' button on the target VCR. I hope this helps.

Thanks to both of you. I should have explained, though, that I've had many VCRs and done many hookups. Problem seems to be with the new one only. So-o, there's something DIFFERENT here.

you can always trick it,, play your tape,, while watching it,, then record from the tv,, you would need 2 splicers though

VCRs and videotapes produced since 1998 use a digital protect signal in the content to thrawt piracy. Unless you have a write protect filter dubber or a pre 1998 vcr, it will not produce an unscrambled, high resolution copy.

The problem here is that it won't record AT ALL from VCR to VCR. It is a Toshiba.

Will probably return it and get another, checking the instruction booklet beforehand. Otherwise, might have to try Stan's idea.

Jay, what is a filter dubber? Where do you get one?

They actually violate copyright law so mostly they are only in the media production sector, however , occasionally mail order houses such as Damark and Computer Shopper will carry them with use warnings /liability disclaimers. Personally I just buy my videos when the price drops to $6 a piece.
