chickens and afgans

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Hi to all you wonderful people I've been here long ago and moved away long story but finally on our own little farm house.. and back on the net yes.. anyway I got my fisrt poultry catolog but I was wondering if there is a poultry house in N.E. Arkansas that I would just go to and buy my birds? That way I won't have to worry about their shipments in the pervious post that I just read. (Poultry versa the airlines). Also just a thought about those poor parents in Afgan that are selling their children for money to feed the remainder of children I think its terrible and can't seem to understand why with all the food stuff in the world why any one in this world has to starve. My heart goes out to them.. can't people donate to them not money in organsations that rape the money donated to line their own pockets. Once I read an article about some organsation collecting donations and a man stood up and said " You can take Faith " of course there was rumbling till they understood that Faith was a cow and others donated seeds and chickens etc. to be delived to these unfortunate people so they learned to care for these and was able to feed themselfs. Well, not really wanting to start a polictical debate just I feel something needs to be done somewhere... Thanks for you wonderful website.

Hi Jacque, I don't know what is available in Arkansas, but you might try Ideal out of Central Texas. They are probably the most economical, and will also let you order fewer birds if you like.(find them at ideal-poultry.com) From what I have read, I'm pretty sure they are still shipping.

Or you can wait a couple of months and probably pick up a few at your local feed store.

On the chickens, try what Mary suggested or if you have a TSC(Tractor Supply Company) go by and see if they have any. A couple of weeks ago our local store had some straight runs for a dollar a piece. That is cheap if you don't mind taking a chance on getting most or all roosters. On the other. I think there is an organization called Heifer Project and they assist people in third world countries by providing livestock. Sorry, I don't remember anymore but I imagine someone here can give you more information. You might also try a Google search.

Dear Jacque-----about helping others----I have been on many mission trips over the years---& it isn't as simple as it sounds!!!!

I praise God for the missionaries who give their lives to TEACHING OTHERS!!! As it isn't all about "just giving"--it is sooooooooo much more complex than that----some have no clue-after they are given!!!

I hope & pray if you are not helping a missionary family-you will!!! My heart breaks for Martin & Gracia Burnham!!! Who are being held in the Philippines--they are from Rose Hill, Ks. If you are not praying for this couple & all the missionaries I hope you will take this on as part of your mission!!!

Sometimes the very best thing we can do is be the missionarys prayer warriors!!

There is soooo much more I could say----but no /is isn't right anyone goes hungry----but it is sometimes far more complicated than some understand!!! I believe God has all the answers & so I go to Him & I ask for the needs of others to be met--- & I also pray & give to missions!!!!! Especially through my church-- as I feel I have a better understanding of where the money is going & I have some say in the matter!! If you don't feel you have a say--- then get VERY involved!!! Make a difference!!!

My heart breaks for the Burnham family & I'm asking if you will also add these people to your prayer list if you have not already!! Along with all the missionary families who give of them selves to help & care for & educate others!! Blessings/ Sonda in Ks.
