Toyo vs. Fidelity Elite 4x5 Film Holders (weight)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

At Samy's camera, saw new Toyo 4x5 holders and was suprised at how light they were compared to the Fidelity's. Perhaps these are a very new design? (They looked a little different than those shown in Toyo brochure) I have never heard the lightness of these holders mentioned before.

(Got the Fidelity anyway, cause they were much cheaper.)

I recently purchased a number of new 4x5 Toyo holders and have been meaning to weigh them. Thanks for the motivation.

My postal scale says 5 3/4 oz. per holder. Don't own any regular Fidelity holders in that size, but the Riteways I do have - - essentially a Fidelity with locking dark slides - - come in exactly 6 oz.

I used to have 20 of the Toyo holders before I started using Readyloads. I feel the Toyos are worth the extra expense; they are made better and film is easier to load and especially to extract from the holders, a godsend in the dark !
