Testify

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church (Real) : One Thread

I was on a forum a long while ago when I started a thread where everyone had a chance to share their personal testimony, when they commited their lives to Jesus. It turned out to be one of the best discussions on the forum. Actual ministry transpired and one visitor ended up surrendering their life to Jesus' Love and forgiveness and began attending a local church in their area! Let us make this a positive place to post and one we can look back on and agree together that it was good to have been a part of something special. There has been many a time I have been encouraged by someone's witness of Jesus' saving grace in their life - I look forward to reading the responses - God bless!

John,

Thanks for giving us the link to your testimony! That was very good - I enjoyed reading your story very much - and your family IS beautiful!

I had been hoping more people would respond…

Perhaps I should get the ball rolling…

Where should I start…

My mom grew up Roman Catholic in Boston, and being ˝ Irish and ˝ Polish she was with the "in crowd". She grew up 12 years parochial education went to college and got married. That is where my brother and I come into the picture J When I was around five years old my parents got a divorce - this was taboo back in the day and my mom was somewhat ignored by the family for a number of years. She remarried and along came my sister. This marriage ended and we found ourselves with no place to live. We ended up in the home of a local pastor who demonstrated the love of God in a way my mom had never seen. She committed her life to Christ and discovered what it meant to be a Christian. While we were living in this pastor's home, he had a son my age and we were best friends. We did everything together and one day walking home from school Danny mentioned that his best friend was Jesus. This caught me by surprise because I thought I was his best friend. I asked him how Jesus was his best friend and if He would be my friend too? Danny said just ask him. He continued on but I stopped in a grove of trees we would cut through on our way home. I closed my eyes and simply asked Jesus to be my best friend. When I opened my eyes three things happened. One, I felt completely warmed from my feet to my head even though it was a chilly October afternoon, two, the world seemed brighter, the grass was greener, the sky was bluer - everything seemed new, three, I had a picture in my mind of being a minister of the Gospel. From that day on I have always had the presence of Jesus (my best friend) in my life. It's been 27 years since and I have found life to be such an awesome adventure as I live for him. We and another couple started a Church last December is South Boston called Grace Christian Center and the purpose for my life is just beginning.
