Jim "Gave" the Forum to Me

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Did you wonder about that? You know why he wanted to get out, but do you know why ME? Of course, I was his other moderator, so that's the major reason why he asked me if I wanted to "take over" the forum. I eventually agreed to do so, after I thought about it, because I wanted to make it easy for him to just pick up and leave. I don't mind being moderator -- it has perks, like I can go back in and change my typos, which none of the rest of you can do!

But, I always considered this forum to belong, ultimately, to Jim. Now he's bowed out as "owner" and will only visit us occasionally as a member. If I didn't accept "ownership" of the forum, he was going to offer it up for whoever of our membership was interested. As I told him I would, I am now asking if there is anyone who feels strongly that they'd like to be the owner or administrator or whatever you want to call it?

Or shall we just keep it as "our" forum? I think that is how Jim thought of it (am I the only one who still thought of this as belonging to Jim?). I can still act as moderator (or, in reality, fixer of boo-boos) -- as I said, I don't mind. I also wouldn't mind having one or two others as moderators too, but so far, that hasn't been urgent. My own opinion is, if this isn't Jim's forum, then it's OURS (not mine), but because of that, I felt that I have to be open about all this. I think that's how the rest of you feel too, but I have to ask!

I have never felt like it was yours. You have always been very, how can I put this, nonauthoritave but there. I like that. (you are also good at finding invisible goats) I don't post often but I like the fact that it is here. You go to CS at the end of the day and there are at least 20 posts. One time it used to take a week for a post to go to the bottom. Here, you can feel free to talk about anything, answer without worry. I think your fine, thanks.

Joy, first, kudos to you for taking over the forum. I can't imagine anyone having the time or inclination to take on such a job but I'm sure glad there are those of you that do and will.

Having said that, I will say that if you ever need help, there are many of us who would be willing to lend a hand. I think everyone on here has basically acted as a moderator by tempering their posts (most of the time). I am not a computer guru and know nothing about the inner workings of the board so I wouldn't be a help there. But if I could help with spelling or run on sentences, I'd be glad to assist.

You're doing all the work, you can call your board, Jim's board or our board. As far as I'm concerned, it's yours.

Wildman, (always helping)

Invisible goats?? What did I miss?

I like it fine that you're taking the reins, since Jimbo opted out. If you ever really feel the need for help, give a holler; I'm sure one of us will lend a hand.

Yeah, Joy...ditto to what EM said!! I'm sure that we all would be more than willing to help out in whatever way we could!! And I'm curious about the "invisible goats", too! Sometimes I wish one or two of mine were invisible :-)!

"Invisible goats" ??? Yes, please tell us what that is! Sometimes subtle things whizz right over my head you know ;-)!!!

Joy, you are doing a wonderful, and thankless job that we need to thank you more often for! And, yes, I think of it as "our" forum as well, when Jim-Bob was active, I thought of his forum, and still think of it that way, but I guess now it is "ours".

Don't worry, Joy, about detesting Red Rose tea, just more for us ;- )!!!

A very good point! Everyone please keep on helping moderate! :-D

Re: invisible goats: Dee tried to post a picture of her goats here, but made a boo-boo in the HTML code, so I went in and fixed it, thus 'finding' the invisible goats. ;-)

Ooww, you should have kept they guessing a little longer :)

Dee, shhhhh, I don't want them to know that I really just waved my magic wand! Then EVERYONE will want one! ;-)
