Fruit leather from home canned fruit???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

I have some home canned jars of organic apricots that were canned with a light honey syrup. My family is not crazy about apricots that are canned, but would eat apricot fruit leather. How can I turn these apricots into leather. Drain the syrup? Could I add pinapple canned in its own juice to a couple of jars for Pineapple/apricot leather? Has anyone done this? How successful was it? How long would it take to dry in the dryer? Thank you!

I make the fruit leather by putting everything into a blender. Blend it well. Turn it onto the dehydrator sheets. My book says it should take 6 to 8 hours to dry. My book also suggests combining apricots and pineapple. So that should work. Hope this helps. Another thought. The more liquid the longer it will take to dry. Cindy

Could I use fresh pineapple? Do you spray the fruit leather sheets with oil or does it come off easy. I don't want it to tear in a zillion little pieces. How do you store it? Thank you.

My Mother was just telling me the other day that she made leathers out of applesause and, sometimes, fruitcocktail. She would just run the fruit cocktail through the food processer and pour it out on her tray.

Thank you all for your help. We will be trying ours, Lord willing, tomorrow and will let you know what happens.
