Please identify and briefly explain the beastly symbols associated with the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Thank you.

One of these is an angel, Mary. Not ''beastly'' in any way. Then there's the ox, the lion and the eagle, isn't it? What exactly are your own impressions? Before anybody responds to your question, I'd be curious to know what YOU think. Thanks, God bless you.

As found on Internet:

Matthew = Man (or winged Man = Angel)
Mark = Lion (or winged Lion)
Luke = Bull, Ox, Calf (with or without wings)
John = Eagle

Sounds like a class assignment.

Good point, Frank. Maybe Mary can do the rest of the digging now -- and then post a message explaining why each symbol is associated with each evangelist. JFG
