Livestock Auctions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am working on an article about Livestock Auctions for Countryside Magazine. I would like to share my excperience of buying and selling at Livestock Auction, but I need some help from others who may attend Auction in their area.

What type of Auctions do you attened, the large commercial stockyard type Auctions or the small Saturday night type Auctions?

What Commision and/or yardage rates do they charge?

Do they sell animals by he head, pen, or by the pound?

Do they charge a buyers fee?

The Auctions you attend do they do things that may be unique copared to other areas?

What type of percautoins do you take when buying and selling at Auctions?

I know many folks attend Auctions for more of the social events than for buying. Auctions can be very similar to what we do here on this Forum, people sharing their excperience with different animals and sometimes some heated debates. Auctions can be a good place to connect with many like minded people. Do you have any stories to share about the going ons at the Auction Barn?

Thanks for any information you can share about how Auctions work in your area!
