Whitewater Cats Flush Toilets, Turn On Lights

'I Didn't Know If We Had Ghosts Or What '

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Boots and Bandit, who are 1 1/2 -years-old, have learned to flush the toilet and turn off the lights, said their owners Russ and Sandy Asbury.

"I've had cats all of my life," Russ Asbury said. "But these cats are different than any of the others. They are more observing and mischievous. It's pretty scary."

The couple discovered the cats unusual talents last winter, unexpectedly.

The two were at home, Sandy Asbury in the kitchen, her husband in the living room, when they heard an unmistakable noise coming from the bathroom: a toilet flush.

Sandy, 46, checked it out and caught Boots preparing to do it again. Since then, Bandit has also become proficient at toilet flushing.

"We have to shut the bathroom door when we go to bed. Otherwise, one or the other of the cats are in there flushing away all night," Russ Asbury said.

The cats have even started flushing while someone is using the toilet, Russ Asbury said. And they've both become skilled at unrolling the toilet paper and turning the bathroom light on and off, Russ Asbury said.

"Between the water and sewer bills and cost for toilet paper, the cats are going to have to get a job," Russ Asbury said.

Why You Put the Cat Out

My brother and his wife used to have two cats. One, Katrina, was a wonderful cat, a good mouser. The other was a male, totally worthless Grubler. When Katrina would get a mouse, Grubler would take it from her and parade around with it in his mouth, as if he had caught it.

It has never been more true than today that cats are better than television. Our new one, Zucco, almost immediately started nibbling on my toes--doesn't hurt, he just softly nibbles. Had a few near falls but I watch for it now. The other weird thing about Zuke is he likes to paddle in shallow bowls of water--then he shakes his sopping wet paws at any nearby cats! LOL! Of course they HATE water!

Rambo used to pee in the toilet but since we had to replace the old one, she doesn't any more. You know how they hate change.

Does Rambo use the one outside?

Actually, the birds use it as a bird bath, lol! Nah, the cats are all indoor, remember?

OG...

we had moved on to five acres, and had been there for about 2 months when a white cat showed up

he met my daughter and i at the mailbox at the bottom of the driveway....and followed us up the hill "grabbing" at my ankles with his front paws

to tell you the truth, it kinda freaked me out a bit....till i discovered that he had been declawed and "fixed"

i figured that he belonged to someone, but never could find the owner

kitty-bub (hey...what can i say....we live in arkansas and my 4 year old named him....lol) is an awsome cat....and continues to this day to grab at your ankles as you pass by him

: )

Zuke has claws, of course, but he keeps them sheathed. It's not the claws I fear, it's the teeth. But we won't talk about that any more. I can tell already that Zucco is going to rule the roost when he grows up. He almost does now.
