Melissa, how do you subscribe to the Budget?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Melissa, I saw your quote from the Budget. I have heard of it for years, but have never been able to find out how to subscribe. I assume it is in English. Could you post subscription address, cost and info.? I enjoy reading and learning about the Amish. Thanks

Connie, I get it at the library. When I go tomorrow I will look up the address and post it tomorrow afternoon. I just wrote the quote down from it.

The Budget The Budget P.O. Box 249 Sugarcreek, OH 44681 (330) 852-4634 The Budget does not have a website at this time; to order a subscription, call (330) 852-4634 or go to www.amish.net

I had it handy from posting it on another sight for someone else if you are interrest in ordering it. Jenn

Thanks Jan. So Jan and Melissa, can you tell me a little about the newspaper? Do you remember the subsscription cost? It is not listed on the website. I know it contains letters that inform of what is going on in the communities so they can keep up with one another. Besides these scribes, what else does it contain? Recipes, etc., like English newspapers. As you can tell, I have never seen one and have no idea what to expect. Would a non-Amish find it interesting in your opinion? Thanks for being so patient.

The first part is mostly news from the Sugarcreek area. The second section is the main reason most of the Amish and Mennonites subscribe, as it has news from all over the country. It is very homey, chatty, with news of births, deaths, accidents, sicknesses, as well as weddings, and day to day life. The second section runs 32 pages or more and has a lot of information. It is interesting. I read it at the library for free, but I doubt if I would subsrcibe to it myself...

I searched several of the Amish sites that I have in my file and I found the Budget address several times, but there wasn't a price listed for a subscription. I picked my first copy up when I was in Kidron, Ohio last summer. It was interresting to read, but I also probably would not subscribe to it unless I lived in that area. I guess I would suggest maybe writing them a letter inclosing a return self-addressed stamped envelope and ask them if you could order one copy so that you could see what it looks like and if you would like to order a subscription to it.
