Any suggestions for the best tank protector for an MV?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

I pick up my '02 MV next week, and need to order a tank protector, preverably carbon fibre. I've seen that Casoli and QB Carbon both make one. The Casoli appears to wrap around the edges of the tank, offering a little bit more protection. Just wondering what others have used and how they like it.

I have the Casoli. It looks good and fits well. I used double-sided vinyl tape, the kind carpet installers use for edges, to adhere it to the tank.

I too have a Casoli tank guard. It looks good, and fit very well. I used silicon to attach it to the tank. I just made a bead of silicon about a half-inch from the edge all around the guard. Then I just stuck it on. This should allow me to pull it off without damaging the paint.

I just bought a fake carbon one made by Pro Grip. It fits perfect and looks like a million bucks. At $15 it looks even better every time I look at it.

The 2002 models come with the CRC fake carbon tank protector. You can view it on the Special Parts website. The Casoli carbon one looks to offer somewhat better protection but out of the 4 bikes I have seen equipped with them they looked to be peeling back at the top corners where it wraps back under the tank. This allowed some dirt/grit to find it's way under there. I did not like this myself but maybe all 4 people did not use the application methods described below. Also kind of expensive.

Hi John,

I´ve seen a perfect tank protector at www.lieb-speed.de . It fits perfect and it´s made of real carbon. The price is about 50 €.

I took a plastic piece tank protector as a template and cut out the 3M film protection used on the front cowls of cars for the race track. it is nearly invisable and still reatins a stock look. If anyone wants pictures, etc i can send. I have bulk of this stuff as my family is in to club racing cars. It is wonderful stuff.
