A good smoothie

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have been making these drinks in my blender for the last month and a half. We have tried so many different combinations and still have lots of ideas.

However last night I hit on one that had rave reviews!! This one was great. I put in one can of frozen concentrate pineapple juice (100% juice) 1 large banana, 2 kiwi's, some yogurt (maybe 1/2 cup? a few big spoonfuls anyways) and a handful of oats. Filled it the rest of the way with cold, filtered water. It was awesome!!! Very fresh tasting, tangy, and healthy!

These are called Vita Drinks or Total Juices from my Total Nutrition Center (VitaMix blender). They are the ones we’ve already tried and approved of. With our Vitamix, we don’t have to peel & core, but with a regular blender, you probably would have to. I think most of these make between 2-2 ½ cups (unless noted), which is usually two servings, but for a meal, I drink the entire recipe myself

Add to blender in order listed and blend until smooth.

ORBAPPI Single (orange, banana, apple, pineapple) ¼ cup fresh pineapple (probably could used canned, drained) ½ orange 1 inch slice apple 1/3 banana 2 teaspoons honey or other sweetener to taste ¼ cup ice cubes

ORANGE BANANA DRINK 2 oranges, pealed & quartered 1 ripe banana honey or other sweetener to taste 1 cup ice cubes

STRAWBERRY BANANA PINEAPPLE SMOOTHIE ½ cup fresh or canned pineapple 1 ripe banana 1 cup whole frozen strawberries 1 tablespoon fructose or brown sugar (optional) 1 cup ice cubes

MIXED FRUIT SMOOTHIE (our favorite) ½ cup frozen strawberries (it says sweetened, but ours aren’t) 1 banana ½ orange ¼ cup peaches, frozen ½ cup plain nonfat yogurt (we sometimes use vanilla) ¼ cup ice cubes

CRANBERRY APPLE DRINK 1 cup cranberry juice cocktail (I’ve used cranberry juice blends) 1 apple, quartered (for blender, I would peel & chop) 1 orange, quartered ½ cup ice cubes

Milk, banana and cocoa powder. Can add vanilla. I, too, like using oats for a creamy texture and rich flavor, in smoothies. Have to try some of the recipes here.

LOL! I was just about to go and find my recipe book for Vita drinks. My DD, Lisa, beat me to it!
