ACL Switch Tower Colors

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Greetings All,

Does anyone know if the color schemes for wooden ACL Switch Towers followed the standard depot painting practices? By this I mean were they grey/brown, white/purple, and white/green over the years? If not, what would have been the colors? Many thanks, Marc

Marc,

Vic is correct that ACL towers were initially painted a light to medium gray overall with dark brown trim. This scheme lasted until the late 50s when the ACL started painting its structures white with minimal purple trim. It appears most if not all wooden towers were razed by the early 70s so I'm not sure if any ever received the final white with green paint scheme used by the ACL in the early-mid 60s. Others would have to confirm.

A manufacturer has expressed interest in a possible ACL interlocking tower kit and asked us to supply them with an interior photograph showing the strong arm levers, etc. If anyone has such a photograph and would be willing to let the society make a copy, please contact the us so we can make this potential kit a reality. Thanks in advance.

I have a copy of the crossing tower plans for RMT and coast line called for grey and brown exterior and green tile floors.
