greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Besides David Alan Harvey and Sebastiao Salgado, are there any other Leica photographers that that have released any books fairly recently?

Oh and we're all waiting for Rob Appleby to release his own......I'm first on the list alright Rob?!

Ex Libris by Ralph Gibson. He is also at work on a book with the guitarist from the Police (Andy Summer) on Gibson guitars.

I've bought at least ten photo books in the last month (there's a really good used bookstore near me), and, funny thing, not one has a photo of the camera the photographer used. So although I've seen some great new photo books, I have no idea what camera they used. Maybe I will have to look for books with photographers who put their cameras on the cover...

I just started reading Shutterbabe, a memoire by someone who uses Leica, I think. It has some pictures of her in it.

"Seeing Gardens" by Sam Abell and "Portraits of America" by William Albert Allard both came out late last year or early this year.

One of my favourite photographers William Eggleston has a new hardback 'catalogue' of his work that goes with his new touring exhibition. Amongst other rangefinders he uses M3 and M6 Leica's. It is published by Thames and Hudson at £29.95 with 156 pictures.

Isn't it funny how we all worry about what kind of camera somebody uses when it really makes no difference at all? I haven't taken any "better" photographs with Leicas than I did with any of my numerous Canons/Nikons or, for that matter, my first 35mm, a Yashica Electro 35!

But now, with the release of the M7, I'm confident. After poo-pooing it, I've now decided to buy one. Perhaps the M7 will finally produce those great compositions for me automatically. None of these other dang cameras have been able to do it! :)

I'm waiting working on my first photo book and also a first photo gallery exhibition here in Philly.

Just finding a used copy of Foote's My Friend From Memphis. Few people here like abstract Leica photos but his are the literal bomb. Looking for Natchway's book too.

My pet peeve at the moment is to read something like: "great shot but I don't understand why the photographer didn't use a Leica; it could have been better if he did."
