greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just wondering what everyone is having for supper tonight? I've got the crockpot full of homemade vegetable soup, it smells wonderful. I can't wait for supper time.

We are having roast pork! It will be cooked in my wood cook stove in an old cast iron dutch oven. This is the hog we butchered in Jan. I'm heading down to the root cellar to look for the best of the potatoes to roast as well. They are getting a bit past their prime!

I've been able to get some spinach from the cold frame but they are actually predicting our coldet weather yet for Tues! It's supposed to be 70 today and 14 Tuesday night! Wishing you a great Sunday dinner!

My mouth is watering, can we come for dinner? I have to leave in a few minutes to drive two+ hours south to pick my kids up from their dad at the randezvous spot. Then it's another 2+ hours home. We'll have chores and homework. Yea, we'll probably have pasta for supper. It's quick, it's easy, and the kids love it.

I'll be dreaming of pork roast as I slurp my spaghetti noodles. I have a shaker recipe book that has some wonderful pork dishes. Like pork roast with apples and cream sauce.

Sure is pork day! I've got a pork roast set out. Will also have green beans, rolls, and pototoes.

-- ellie (elnorams@aol.com), February 24, 2002.

We'll be having spaghetti. Traditional Sunday dinner on my Father's Italian side of the family. The sauce is made from the leftover sauce, meat and veggies from Friday's homemade pizza, another traditional family favorite. The meat, tomatoes, veggies and some of the spices were all homegrown. I have a great, easy pizza dough recipe if anyone wants it. I'm going downstairs now to bake some bread for garlic toast. Nothing like garlic dreams on a Sunday night!

Pot roast with roasted potatoes and carrots, corn, buttermilk biscuit, gravy and peach pie.

To: Susan in Minnesota You might save yourself some time if you could somehow contact your Husband and have him meet you halfway with the kids say some well known landmark or town. cut your trip in half that way.

Little, you're not going to eat that vegetable soup without cornbread are you?

-- paul (primrose@centex.net), February 24, 2002.

Okay ... this won't come as a surprise to anyone who read about us going fishing yesterday - fried channel cat filets, fried taters, green beans and fresh baked cornbread. Definitely NOT pork :8)! Hope everyone's had a great weekend!

-- Phil in KS (pemccoy@yahoo.com), February 24, 2002.

Chicken fried round steak, beaten to a pulp, mashed potatoes and sweet peas, washed down with a dry rose' homemade wine.

-- Jay Blair in N. AL (jayblair678@yahoo.com), February 24, 2002.

We are having one of our very own home-grown meat birds with 'taters and corn. It is a biggin' that weighs about 7 pounds.

Oh ya, and chocolate cake for desert.

HEEE HAAA!!!!

Original Plan: Roast chicken with homemade gravy, biscuts & stuffing & corn. Just the 2 of us tonight so plenty of leftovers for lunch/dinner durning the week. New plan: Original plan plus-Honey's friend called from the American Legion down the road, for us to join them for a beer, he said no thanks, Kathy's cookin'. Now we're 6 for dinner. Just mashed some potato to stretch it. Always plenty to feed a few more.

Meat loaf cooked in cast iron skillet in oven, homegrown baked potatoes, collard greens with potatoes cut up and cooked in with them in the cast iron pot, stewed apples, raw baby peeled carrots, seedless green grapes. All topped off with some Breyer's Ice Cream. (Green Beans for the dh that doesn't eat collards.)

It was good.

I made a pot of goat chili, corn bread and ice cold goat milk.

-- sherry in Arkansas (chickadee259@yahoo.com), February 24, 2002.

We had (for dinner) round steak slow cooked into salisbury steak with the gravy, rice cooked in chicken broth with a little celery seed & garlic. California veggies with cheese, fresh bread, and Virginia Apple Pudding.

No supper cuz I also made some raised, glazed doughnuts this afternoon and we ate them all!

-- Jody Courtney (jodycourt@yahoo.com), February 24, 2002.

Steve and I are having 2 chocolate pudding pies and goats milk. Would've been chocolate goats milk but we ran out of chocolate in the bottle. And maybe some popcorn. No kids, we can eat anything we want!

Can you imagine what a great feed we would have if we all managed to get together and brought potluck!?! The very thought is almost enough to make plane tickets worthwhile! LOL

ALWAYS LEFTOVERS!!!!

Hmmm....slaw, potatoe salad, pickeled beets, spaghetti, italian beef, bread, etc., etc. we use it as a time to help clean the ice box out...and we have had company for a few days and there is a lot of variety!

We worked in the garden all day - made such great progress! Now I'm so pooped I can hardly think about cooking. DH was in the shower and got toned out to a medical call (he's on the volunteer Fire Dept.) so he may not be back for a while. I think as tired as I am, peanut butter on homemade bread for tonight!
