What to do with PA's (!)

Just out of interest, I was wondering what others 'did with their employees' when they are at work or Uni and don't necessarily need them at all times.

Is there a provision for them to go somewhere? (e.g. a canteen)

This has been a funny one for me for the last 4 or 5 years (especially at Uni) as I don't always need them with me (e.g. in lectures, meetings etc.) - but - because of fire regulations and the like, always have to have them in the building or near vicinity.

I bought a couple of small 2-way radios which work well within even the oldest of buildings (up to about 2 KM) and it enables me to 'page' a PA when needed (saves sending people to find them or waiting for a specified time).

Anybody else had similar problems\experiences? - I'd like to hear any other solutions that you've come up with.

Just a question were you able to count purchase of radios from direct payment or ILF?

Nope - Funds came from my vast reserves of cash under the mattress.

NB: Mattress Cash is that 'extra' section on the back of the monthly spending report form to the council ... lol ...

Cal PS: They were only about £60 (for two) and well worth the money so I just bought them with my own money. ;o)

At uni I also use 2 way radios to page my PA's (great to call them urgently in an emergency as well) as mobile phones dont always work. The only probs I have with them is during lectures etc they sometimes pick up the servitors/janitors/security staff on their radios and their topics of conversation can be very interesting - its a bit embarassing if the room is quiet! The radios let you have instant contact with your PA so they arent like a shadow around you all the time!

The uni dept Im in have been really supportive of the fact I use PA's and when Im in lectures Ive made arrangements so my PA's have a room to sit in thats close to the lecture room (usually my course leaders office where they also have access to loads of coffee!)
