Quails have a topknot of feathers on their heads, its offical name is ___________? And no, it does not have anything to do with Stans haircut.

It is a four letter word used for the name. You proabily have never seen it in print unless you read about quails or the sunday comics.~

I'm sure this breaks the "just know, don't look it up" rule but your comment about 4 letters made me look to see if I was right. World Book backs me up on this. It's a crest.

The word crest does apply to some birds, but not quail. The word is so odd that my F&W college dictionary does not list it and I had not heard it before finding it.~

My mom-in-law says its a tuft.

Tuft is the word I would have used also, until that little peak of feathers has a more correct name.~

I would have said "Thingamabob!"

8:30 e.s.t., its called a hmuh. Not in my dictionary, but it is on the web, two points to whoever knows how to pronounce it.
