A wonderful Day

Its almost 4 am here in Tx and I am able to get back on line. yesterday started off great (3am) first cry for help from a first time kidder...the wife and I both went out to help. She delivers a BIG girl and doesnt want to have anything to do with it. We hold her and let the kidd nurse a few times. At 3 am the rain had just started but by daylight it had gotten into heavy with spells of drizzle. We came in and got to drink coffee about 7 and then went out to find another mom had left the barn to go have her babys in a small protected area ..lots of mud and water under it. Gave her time to bond VERY QUICK then got the little ones inside and in a pen..she finally came in and started cleaning the mud off. The rain had taken a lot of the babys strength away so we had to take a siringe and give it colostrum 3 times with 3 cc each time. Just like a shot of adrenelin for them!! Time for a quick bite of breakfast..fried oatmeal with butter and strawberry perserves. Went back out and see another mom thats starting to kidd, put her in her own pen befor having to chase them down later. she went into labor and looked to be having problems so without letting her stress out decided to see if I could help. Well what was found supprised Me, 4 feet tring to come out at the same time LOL NOT GOOD. Had to go wash up again and went inside of her to see what could be done (thought here comes the call to the vet) was able to push the second baby back in and get the first babys feet out to where I could grab them and pull it out.Had to pull the first baby but left her to see what would happen on the next one, she delivered it in about 10 minuits. Time for a tuna sandwitch now!! Forgot to mention that we have a bottle fed calf and 2 bottle kidds that are being fed every 3 hours too, only the kidds every 3 hours.Think I took a quick nap to tired to reamember!! Next is another first time kidder she delivers twins with out any problems, thank the Lord. Was able to get back inside and rest and eat some beans and rice now. This old man was tired!! That brought the total baby count to 22 with 13 girls and 9 boys from 13 moms. The Lord has blessed us with girls this year. Went to bed about 8 pm and the lights went out for me.LOL Woke up about 3 AM and went out to check on the girls and every one is doing well..no one in labor yet. Will be glad when the kidding is over(not really) and we can enjoy watching them play. It looks like we are almost 1/2 way on the kidding as we have 28 that should be preganent.

God Bless and have a great weekend.

Charles----it is really COLD & THE WIND IS REALLY BLOWING here in Kansas----I'm bakeing to keep the house warm---along with the propane heat & a wood stove---& my sweet hens are laying soooo many eggs--- I'm pickleing eggs this morning---- Sure is nice to be able to have the wood pile by the back door & be able to stay inside today---- Hubby works nights & it takes him usually an hour & a half to get home---it took him longier this morning because of the high wind & drifting snow-----sure glad he is home & tucked in bed now sleeping!!! He did my chores for me before he came in to bed!!
