I'm waiting for an answer from Nan and hoped to get it so I could send mine out this weekend. I know this sounds stupid but did you cut straight six inch squares or did you give seam allowances (6-1/2 in.) squares? Please let me know so I can cut and send mine out. Thanks. - Sheryl

HEY EVERYONE, WELL OLA AND I SENT OURS IN ON THE 28th OF FEB. AND WE CUT OURS 6".IM SURE THATS WHAT NAN ASK US TO CUT WAS 6" SQUARES. CANT WATE TO GET STARTED.I CUT 6 DIFFERENT FABRICKS,AND MADE 23 STACKS OF THE 6 DIFFERENT FABRICKS,AND SIGNED 1 OF THE 6.I HOPE WE WILL HAVE THE 23 LADYS THAT SINGED UP, FOLLOW UP..HAPPY QUILTING..AMELIA KAY

I have only received one set of squares so far. We did get a snow and the mail didn't come Saturday. So....hopefully we will get them in soon. Yes, as I e-mailed last week and have e-mailed Sheryl too, the squares are 6" total. No seam allowance. I hope that everyone knows to cut them out!!!!! One girl wrote to tell me that she was sending her scraps! Sure hope that was a typo and that she meant squares. YIKES! That would be a whole lot of cutting if everyone doesn't cut their own. Don't know if I have time to cut out someone else's. I am already doing two swaps to make up for another person dropping out. And wonderful Teresa did extra so that another that dropped out last week is covered. So please cut your squares out before mailing them to me. Figured that was obvious, but I have answered a LOT of questions! About 6 e-mails a day! I did see the company off that I had last week. 9 teenaged boys in the house at the same time. So if it took me a day to get back to you by e-mail that is why. Those boys can really really eat! Now I am just waiting on the mail. The ones that I did get already were sent priority mail! They got here in less than 3 days! We haven't received mail yet today. Please check the address that I sent to everyone individually to make sure that you are mailing them to the right place!!

Great! The first time I respond on the forum and it's an apology. Sorry folks my quilt squares will be in the mail this afternoon. Payday and a long trip to town, are the long and short of it. Please forgive me. :{ Sheila in Oregon

Amelia, I just read back through the posts to make sure that I had answered all of the questions and noticed that you said that you signed only 1 of the 6 in each. Did Ola not want to sign her's? I know that the ones that you sent are for yourself and for Ola, so she will be getting signed squares in return, but hers won't be signed. I know that no one will mind, but it is a shame that her name won't be on the quilt. Let me know if you want me to print her name on 23 of the ones that you sent so that she won't be left out. Doesn't matter really, just thought that she might want to be a part of the "names" on the finished quilts. And any more questions? Just bring them on...I will be glad to answer them for you! I would MUCH rather answer a question than to have you wonder. Even if it seems like it has been answered before! Sometimes it seems obvious to those that have done this before but for others it is not. So don't be embarrassed about asking. Time is running short though...so please ask now so that we can get these squares in.

I mailed mine off February 27th, and so looking forward receiving the return squares. Nan, please note the address change, in case you need to e-mail me for any reason.

I won't be able to get to the post office to send mine till Friday...sorry I'll be holding everyone up for a while! I can't wait to get started on the quilt, it will be my first ever!

-- Christine (Christine_Young@brown.edu), March 04, 2002.

If you know that you are going to be later getting them to me...please send them priority mail so that it won't take so long. Okay? That way I will still be sending them back out pretty quick. You can put a regular postage paid envelope in the priority mail one if you don't mind how long it will take to get back to you. They really need to be in by the 7th if at all possible and then on the 11th I was planning to return them. If you send them priority mail on Friday the 8th there is still time to do that by the 11th or 12th.

Hi Nan..Hey Christine .. do not feel bad..mine are not mailed either! You made me feel a little better. Between trying to move..the storm and no water today..hoowahhh..But I will try very hard to have them posted by tomorrow afternoon!

-- Sher (riverdobbers@webtv.net), March 04, 2002.

Hi everyone, I just got mine in the mail today. Very sorry, but I had a slight delay due to my only neighbors house exploding and burning down the day I was sitting here cutting the squares! Also, 2 days later I had to go the airport in Madison to unexpectedly pick up our 14 year old niece who will be living with us for an indefinite period of time. Anyway, we're all adjusting to each other and now my squares are in the mail. The quilt I make will be for my neighbor. She's 73 and lost everything she owned. Things are working out with the niece, she helped me get the squares finished and ready for mailing.

-- rose marie wild (wintersongfarm@yahoo.com), March 04, 2002.

Oh Rose Marie, maybe we need to have a shower for her or something? How did her house explode? Was it a gas leak or something? Was anyone hurt! That is terrible about her losing her house....so glad that she made it out of there. Let us know if we can help. Does she have any family close by to help her?

-- Nan (davidl41@ipa.net), March 04, 2002.

I got mine sent out the 1st. so you should be getting them any time. Rose Marie-I like Nan's idea-a shower for your neighbor. How awful for that to happen to her. If we can send any care packages let me know.

-- Terri in WV (mrs_swift_26547@yahoo.com), March 04, 2002.

Thanks for your thoughts for my neighbor! She's a "tough" 73 year old and is doing surprisingly well given what happened. She stopped over yesterday to let me know she's ok. Has a new haircut due to most of it being burned off and has what looks like a really bad sunburn on her face. It was a propane leak in the basement which caused the explosion. If the propane company would have had a valve on the tank, she could have shut it off when the fire started and it may not have been so bad. She has a place to stay, friends of hers are in Florida and she's staying at their house for now. The insurance company already gave her a check and have arranged for a mobile home to be set up on her land in 2 weeks. She has a grown son and daughter and she's well known in this small town (367) so she's getting a lot of moral support. She will be rebuilding this summer as she says "that's where her husband planted her" (he's been dead 10 years). She's sad to have lost her dining room table and 73 years worth of things she's "collected" and her houseplants. She lost one dog and one cat in the fire. The other 2 cats have moved into our barn for now and are being well fed. They have found her son's birth certificate, her husband's funeral flag, a few photos and other sentimental things unburned or smoke damaged as they go through the debris. It's amazing what survives in a fire or tornado. Your idea of a shower for her is a great one and so generous for people who don't even know her. She will need a little of everything, but says she doesn't want a lot right now as she's got nowhere to store it. I know I'm going to give her the quilt I make from these squares you all are sending and I'm going through my houseplants and taking slips to start new ones for her. They are going to have moving back into the house party for her when the rebuilding is complete. They're estimating sometime early summer. I will keep you posted on her progress and maybe we could all get some things together by then. I'm a weaver so I'm also going to put a set of kitchen towells on the loom for her asap. Thanks again so much for your concern. I will certainly let her know she's being thought of.
