My doe just kidded this evening with twins.One side of her udder is large the other is smaller.The largeside I tried to get the colostrum to come stripped out a long seal But now I cant get any thing to come out.She is trying to get them to nurse this side.I used hot towels and massaged it what else can I do?She nursed last year.thanks Pam

I noticed one of my does had a real problem to get the first colostrum through. After that it was fine. Did you get the babies their first milk? It sounds like maybe it could be complications from mastitis, is that a possibility?

If it were me, I would continue with the heat and massage and perhaps the Vicks vapor rub for edema just to stimulate the blood flow. Best of luck to you, and congrats on the new babies!

Thanks Doreen,Yes I think it is Mastitis It looks lumpy.Yes they did get their first milk from the other side.I took her to the vet last year she got sick I told him I thought she had Mastitis and he told me to give her PenG for 5 days I did and she nursed her kids last year.I since have changed vets.I dont think it took care of the Mastitis.Pam
