Hansons bush cherries

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone have Hansons bush cherries? Are they tasty? Good for eating fresh, or perhaps pies, or just ornamentals????????

I'm thinking of ordering some, but I have never had any so I don't really know if I want them or not. Thanks!!!1

Tried them once, but after 5 years of non-production, we ripped them out. We are in Maine, and perhaps that was a factor, but we had been led to believe that they would be fine here. Bought them from a reputable mail order house too! I would like to hear from someone who has had success. I suspect they are fine, but limited to a fairly narrow slice of our collective agricultural climate and ability. GL!

I have a couple and they have never produced anything. We live in zone 9 and the regular cherry trees have no problems here at our place.

Had some once here in Wisconsin. They didn't produce, so after a few years they were gone and replaced with something that did produce.

GOOD LUCK

Yup, I had some too. Am yanking them this year after 6 yrs of no cherries... And no/few flowers. So they aren't even pretty. I think I read somewhere that not all the plants will produce cherries! Either feast or famine and they can't gurantee which... Anyway, Gurney's has a sale going on right now (and you can access on the web) that if you buy one fruit tree you can get another one (select ones) free. That's about $25 for two trees. And cherries/sweet cherries are represented!

We've planted five cherry trees in the past few years. Hands-down winner for early and abundant production is Stella. They're self- pollinating, and they taste great too!
