QUILT SWAP UPDATE

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Howdy all! Well, we are getting down to the last few days of the quilt square swap. So far I have received 10 of the 23 and have heard that several more are on their way! The squares that I have sorted so far are really nice! Looks like a rainbow in my sewing room! Please, if you haven't gotten yours mailed already...please do it as soon as possible! If you can afford a little extra, ship it priority mail. I have been getting those in next to no time. Now, if you haven't cut them out....get busy! Get them in the mail! You will NOT be dissappointed in the swap. The fabric is everything from gorgeous florals, to tiny lady bugs, to stripes, to solids, to tiny hens, etc.......I sorted them out so that everyone has a beautiful assortment from everyone else. Some people sent their 69 squares in 20 or so different prints. My daughter and I had a ball looking at them all! Better than Hancock's! Take care all! Let's all stick together on this. You will be BUMMED if you are LEFT OUT! It has been fun to have fabric squares up to my knee pits!(slight exaggeration;~) Looking forward to seeing your swap!

Nan, My quilt squares are on their way. For those who still need to mail their's off, the priority mailing was less than $1.00 over first class. Total cost of postage was under $7.00, for both ways. Tonight I'm cutting the rest of my fabric into 6 inch strips to use as borders. Do any of you know what your going to do with your squares? I'm thinking I'll do a 9 square block. With 6 inch borders around each block. I want the quilt to be a large lap size. Do you know if there is a way to post pictures to the forum? I would love to see all the different ways we use "OUR" Squares. Happy dreaming. Sheila in Oregon

If you add some of your own squares it won't take much to make it a twin or full size. You can do a few borders to increase it quickly too! I haven't decided yet. I thought it might be fun to write some verses on the borders about friendship or something..... I just don't know yet. I might even do a few big blocks in between some 4 patches or 9 patches and do some appliques or something. YOu just never know. I will lay them all out and get creative when we get all of the squares shipped back!

I think for my quilt I'm going to use the signed sqs. in the center and cut the rest in half and sew them to the signed ones with setting sqs. in the corners(the corners for all the blocks the same to help unify them) and set them on point to give me a larger top to work with. But then who knows for sure until we get them(is it the 11th yet??)-I'm ready and impatiantly waiting!

I've been collecting bridesmaid dresses for years and am going to cut the satin and velvet from these into strips for between the squares. I've also got 2 graduation gowns from my daughter's high school and college graduation. One's satin is better quality than the other, so I may use some of this also. I always look for bridesmaid dresses at rummage sales as they usually have quite a bit of good, pretty fabric on them. I was going to piece together the squares in sets of 4 each with this fabric for the borders and in between. I'm new to quilting, so it won't be anything elaborate! I don't have the capability to post a picture on the computer, but would also like to share our results somehow? (as long as no one's in a hurry!) I've promised myself that I'm going to spring cleaning this house (it's never been done completely and we built in '97!) before I start another project!

Going to the big city today ya'll! If you need me, I will be back this evening! Bummer, but they say that my oldest has to have his wisdom teeth out and they insist on doing it in the office instead of here on the farm....heeheeheehee! I offered the pliers but he gave me that LOOOOOK! heheeheehee! So....off to Tulsa.......Sure am enjoying hearing what everyone is doing with their pieces. They will all be so neat and so different! Blessings this gorgeous morning! Chilly, fixing to rain....but still a beautiful day!
