Quote of the day:

British reporter: Is there any public figure you would be wary of criticising?

Christopher Hitchins: No. How dare you ask.

-Q&A in The Independent (UK)

A President not ashamed to ask for guidance.

Condit Forked: If Gary Condit were a potato he would be cooked. His redistricted district gave it to him right between the eyes. He was defeated by his own hubris and refusal to 'fess up to an affair and connection to a girl-gone-missing. We think he should have lost as well for constantly carrying his jacket on one finger. Really annoying.

We Are Getting Confused: Tom Daschle, in an ankle-snapping one-eighty has reversed his disastrously timed criticism of Bush and the war effort and his whining about not being informed of a "secret government" (although aides say he visited the place in person.) After apparently watching the evening news he is now four-square behind the president. Someone on his staff should be fired for letting him go on TV in his mental condition.

Cokie Wants Out: Saying she wants her life back, Cokie Roberts, one of the most well thought of TV talking heads in the business, is going to get it by leaving her long running Sunday morning stand (or sit) with Sam Donaldson. Her calm, intelligent presence won't be terribly missed but she deserves better than to be replaced by that egregious Mr. Precious, George S.............oh hell, let someone else spell it.

Go Sit On Your Thumbs: Carolyn Condit, late in the day, has found a calling: Threatening the media. Not enough that she's suing the National Enquirer for saying she spoke to Chandra, now Matt Drudge has come up with a letter to NBC "Law and Order" from her lawyers complaining about a recent plot line . It's late Carolyn. It's also so over. Pack it in.

A Caribou In Every Liberal's Garage: While not everyone is excited about drilling in ANWR, we are and like to point out every article we see on the subject. If the freedom from foreign blackmail is not your thing scroll on by. We will just keep hammering at the idea of Saudis gargling their oil and furry things warming their behinds beside our pipeline. The Washington Post comments.

TV Note: Those who have seen the CBS 9/11 documentary due to air Sunday night say it is riveting and the most amazing TV in a long time, tastefully and sensitively done. The only solution for the families who say it will cause them pain is to simply not watch. The rest of the country apparently needs to.

On Fox News this morning, one of our guys, Sgt. Major Frank Grippe, 10th Mountain Division, recently wounded, talked about the 18 hour firefight our troops went through Monday and Tuesday. He turned to the video phone and said, "America can be proud." We are Sgt. Major. We are.
