"It Boys" -continued

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This thread was lookng old after Greenspun went down. So I thouht my Post might not be seen if I post it on the uncatogarized so thats why I've started it again.

Anyway it started like this

"It is currently Robert.

Anyway, the question is, why do we have to pick on individuals. The truth is that last season, the whole team was so depleted that picking on individuals was grossly unfair. This season, they have done far better than expected and we are pointing the finger at indivuduals. Why? Is it because we need to think that only one player is making us poor? Are we just plain nasty?"

My response was..

"Fans always look at how to make the team better. If you look at any football message board it will be the same. "I think we should sign..." "We should sell ..." It's natural to want your team to improve. So if that means selling your right back then so be it. No matter how good a squad is the fans can always think of a way to improve it. With us so far, it's been Barton and now Robert. I don't think it's nasty to say we should play someone else or sell them.

However it is always unacceptable to boo a player in black and white and I was ashamed to be at the Troyes match in which it happened to Barton. I am proud to say I've never taken part in any "booing" unless it's been directed at the Ref which in some cases is acceptable."

Dougal

"Jim, of course it's nasty: our season tickets don't buy us a right to select a team, they give us a right to support whatever team is out on the pitch. £400 doesn't pay much towards Alan Shearer's wages you know."

ALL i was saying is that EVERY fan can think of a way to improve a team and that If I express an opinion like "I think Robert should be dropped," how is that nasty? It is just saying I don't think he is good enough. As I said before booing IS nasty. But me coming on a message board and saying that Bernard should play instead of Robert is not nasty. As for the comment bout how my £400 doesn't pay Shearers wages. When did I say it did? As for the comment about fans have no right to select the team, when did I say fans had the right to select a team? All I was doing in my first response was trying to answer your question on "It boys."

You asked why there is always a player picked out. My answer was that it happens at every club and that fans always have ideas about how to improve squads. I wasn't saying it was right. Jst helping to answer your question.

Fans are the most important part of any football club. And 52,000 x £400 DOES infact pay Shearers wages. On top of football shirts, cup games. Anything else the club makes money on, like media, sponsorship would not be there without the fans. If there were no fans at SJP or at home, there would beno NTL banners and there would be no interviews, Sky funds for live matches. Fans are supporters but at the same time THEY ARE THE CLUB.

Jm, gate reveune is probably about £25million (I read somewhere). Buy a Bellamy and a Robert and you're left with 9 million to pay wages, build an academy and new training facilities and do further dabblings in the transfer money. TV money, merchandise and runs in Cups and Europe are what really set clubs aside in terms of money. Trust me, it's not Bob Murray being tight that stops the Makems splashing out.

You're right that people will always express an opinion, and it's what this forum is for, but as I said on the orignal thread, if you think having a season ticket entitles us to anything other than a game of football, then we are basically the consumers, not the supporters, that SKY and the FA would claim we are.

In any event, we weren't talking about opinions on here, we are talking about nobs who seem to suffer at football matches and do nothing but moan and the people who do things like go on Robert's website and call him an embarrassment (the real embarrassment, of course, is the Hampton Wick who wrote that on his site).
