scratches on negatives

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

I recently tried printing a negative and found a couple very light scratches on the non-emulsion side..

I was wondering what would be the best way to fix these scratches.. they are not as visable on 5x7's but on 8x10's they are very noticable...

thatnks for any help..

The traditional answer is a bit of nose grease applied to the base side of the neg. You can also get Edwal's No-Scratch, a blend of stuff that matches the refractive index of the film. It's somewhat messy, so wipe it off the neg and carrier afterwards. It can make severe scratches completely disappear.
