Response to Pray for Bishop Ming (He has passed today)

It is with a very heavy heart that I write these words of condolence this morning. Bishop Ming served as my Presiding Prelate in the Sixth Episcopal District for eight years and he was a blessing to me. I thank God for every memory I have of Bishop (and Mrs) Ming. I mourn with the family, as I am sure so many others do. God has promised to supply all of our needs and that includes comfort for all who experience sorrow. Let us walk in the promises of God. Let us take Him at His word and cast all our cares upon Him for He cares about us. We have suffered a great loss in the passing of our dear Bishop - however, God is still God and He is still blessing, even now. I pray for the family and loved ones of Bishop Ming and for the First Episcopal District in the passing of their Episcopal Leader. God cares for you. The Augusta - Athens Presiding Elder District, under the Episcopal Leadership of Bishop Frank Curtis Cummings and Mrs. Martha Cummings, of the Sixth Episcopal District loves you and will be in constant prayer with you.

We will always remember his 'sophisticated-strut' as her sermonized the good-ness of the Lord as he told the world "These are AME shoes and these are AME clothes bought by persons who loved him." So we here at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, in Americus, and the state of Georgia will remember him and continue to lift you up for God's strength as we walk and run together to see what the end will be. March on Bishop Ming for you have a "new set of wings." Pastor K.C. Williams, Allen Chapel AMEC.

On behalf of the Board of Christian Education of the Bermuda Annual Conference, I extend our condolences to the family of our beloved Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Donald George Kenneth Ming.

Truly Bishop Ming was a giant amongst men and he had left a legacy for us to aspire to.

We will always remember his inspiring message to the youth on Annual Conference Youth Night (2001), when he encouraged them to have confidence in God, and themselves, and aspire to the heights that God will has in store for them.

His stirling leadership and his spiritfilled words will forever ring in our ears as we watched and admired his strength of character being displayed against all odds.

We can rejoice that he has fought a good fight and gone to a 'better' place and that he is indeed at rest.

To the family, be consoled by the words of one of our beloved hymns, "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal."

Love and God's continued blessings.

It is with shock and dismay that I have learnt about the home going of our Bishop DGK Ming as we knew him in Namibia. Threfore, I am praying for understanding on behalf of you in your time of sorrows. For John teaches us in his gospel the 14th Chapter, "Let not your heart be troubled, believe in me believe alos in God. In my Fathers House there are many mansions". Thus as christians of faith we are not to despair when we are faced with trials and tribulations. Surely these are trying times not only for you as family but for the entire African methodism. To The Family of Bishop Ming, God's flower Garden

It's hard to lose the ones we love, To see them pass away, The sweetest and the kindest gone While others are left to stray! But if we had a garden with roses fair and bright We'd often pick the loveliest And think it to be right. And so it is with Jesus In His earthly garden here, He often picks the fairest flowers, The ones we love so dear. The flowers that are picked by him Will never fade away We know they'll live forever, and We'll see them some sweet day.

To the family of the late Bishop Donald George Kenneth Ming, we extend our sincere condolences to his family in Bermuda and overseas. He was a Man of the Soil, a Man of Distinction and one who carried out his duties in an honourable fashion. We were deeply blessed to have him serve as the Presiding Prelate of the First Episcopal District of which Bermuda is an integral part. We at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church were privileged to host the Welcome Banquet for this most prominent Bermudian servant at the 115th Session of the Bermuda Annual Conference last March, 2001 when he had the privileged of addressing his family and fellow Bermudians. We were deeply overwhelmed and proud of his great achievements. Our Shepherd has fought a good fight, he has finished his course, he has kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteousness judge, shall give him at that day, and not to him only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. To his family and close associates - "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted".

On behalf of my wife Tracy, and daughters Phelicia and Angelina and myself, we offer our most sincere and heart felt prayers to the ming family at this time of transition, during your sence of lost. Please accept this word of encouragement found in 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NLT)

"And now, dear brothers, I want you to know what happens to a Christian when he dies so that when it happens, you will not be full of sorrow, as those are who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and then came back to life again, we can also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with Him all the Christians who have died. I can tell you this directly from the Lord: that we who are still living when the Lord returns will not rise to meet Him ahead of those who are in their graves. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a mighty shout and with the soul-stirring cry of the archangel and the great trumpet- call of God.And the believers who are dead will be the first to rise to meet the Lord. Then we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. So comfort and encourage each other with this news."

May God continue to bless and keep you all.

Yours In Christ,

Rev. James D.S. Vance

It is with profound sorrow that I learned of the death of my Presiding Prelate, Bishop Donald George Kenneth Ming. I had the priviledge of serving Bishop Ming as his Administrative Assistant when he was the Presiding Bishop for the Sixteenth Episcopal District from 1980 to 1984. I can describe Bishop Ming as a caring, compassionate, comitted and dedicated Christian servant of the Church, as evidenced by his passion and concern for Missions in reaching out to enrich the lives of the overseas clergy and laity.

My family, the Calvary A.M.E. Church of Brooklyn, N.Y. Family, and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed Father in God, and pray that Almighty God will give you faith and strength for the facing of this hour.

The faculty, staff and students of the Department of Music at Jackson State University and the Music Ministry of Pearl Street A.M.E. Church in Jackson, MS join me and my wife, Mrs. Carrie G. James, in extending sympathy to the family of Bishop Donald George Ming and members of the First Episcopal District in the loss of a great leader. Bishop and Mrs. Ming were excellent leaders during their tenure in the Eighth Episcopal District and they gave great support to the Annual Church Music Workshop of America during their tenure here. In considering a person's greatness, consider not the heights to which he or she has reached but the depths from which he or she has climbed. Bishop Ming has been a climber, a diligent worker for Christ, a person never satisfied with a job merely well done--always striving towed excellence whether it was in his dirstrict or his community. After working with Bishop Ming and knowing about his tenaciousness, his diligence, and organizational ability, I can truly say that this great leader is going to be missed.

I'm sure if Bishop Ming was alive today, he would leave words similar to those that appear in the poem, "I'm Free."

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free I'm following the path God has laid you see I took his hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all.

In times like these it's reassuring to know that: "Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning." May God continue to bless your entire family. Now,we can say that Bishop and Mother Ming are finally walking together again.

Soon we'll be able to be reunited together with them but until then we'll just know that: "when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory."

Peace & Blessings.

It is with heartfelt sympathy that I write the following. The memories of such a GIANT of a man will forever linger in the minds of those of us who knew him personally. Bishop Ming was a Giant, in stature, in quantity and in quality of life. He was indeed a genuine good person full of vigor and integrity. Our separation, as a church, from this Giant of a man will be remembered. Christ reminds us that nothing, including death, can separate us from his love. My prayer is that God will be near those of us who knew him and that God will be with the Ming Family during these trying hours. Press On! Bishop Ming, you wrought well. God's Speed to you, a Giant of a Man. A-men.

It is with deepest sadness to hear of our dear Uncle's passing. He was a true and strong man of God, who served his time well. Uncle Donald, you have made your "Calling and Election Sure". You have gone home to be with your dear wife, Aunt Edith, your sister and our dear mother, Gloria. No more pain and suffering. May you rest in peace. "The death of people whom we love brings sorrow and deep pain, but if our loved one knows the Lord, our lost becomes their gain". To be absent in the Body, is to be present with the Lord. You have done your father's work on this earth, and a job well done it was. I end by saying, "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, THY GOD REIGNETH! On behalf of the Pastor, Associate Minister, Officers and Members of Bethel A.M.E church, Babylon New York, We express our heartfelt sympathy to the Ming family. We have indeed loss the Physical presence of our esteemed Bishop Donald George Kenneth Ming, but he shall ever live within all of us throughout the connection as we remember and Praise God for the life Bishop Ming lived which speaks for him. May the Presence of the Risen Christ grant comfort to the Ming family during this time of bereavement. " Earth has no sorrow, that Heaven cannot get ahold of."

To the Ming family: Bishop Ming will be missed dearly. Bishop Ming admiited me into the AME Church, he ordained me deacon and elder in the church. He made worship exciting in our church, and I thank God for his Ministry.

Rest on Bishop Ming
