NE Alabama Homestead for sale

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Ok all you folks who want to get away from ice and snow to the beautiful South, listen up: 7+acres, 3 cleared, rest in woods (pines, oaks, cedars)..house is one-level and very interesting; one part of the house was a 168 year old log cabin, another was a 1930s Al farm house and the third section was built new 5 years ago..it is all put together beautifully..you cannot tell one from the other. 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, huge livingroom with Vermont Casting hunter green wood stove, dining room, kitchen, pantry, 40 foot long front porch which is 100% screened in, ceiling fans, central air and heat backed up by the woodstove as well as a wall-hanging propane heater...on a quiet road with the house about 200yards from the street. A 12X40 workshop also on the property as well as a 16X16 building made by hand from 100 year old lumber, curently used as a country store for antiques, an 8X8 chicken coop, and a 12X12 storage building. The house is frame with cedar siding, so it appears to be a log home with mostly hardwood floors. Has a termite contract from year to year. County water runs $11/month..house has new hunter green tin roof, all new vynal tilt-in windows, septic tank cleaned in November..3 and a half acres around the house are fenced with new hog wire, and there is a chain-link 60X60 area in the back of the house for dogs. there are two lanes to the house from the road, both are farm gated. No zoning at all here....wonderful people, beautiful area with the house surrounded on three sides by forest..many deer and wild turkey as well as too many to count bird species.2and 1/2 hours West of Atlanta, and 45 minutes NE of Birmingham. Taxes are $330/year..folks who are over 65 or who are on disability pay $230 in property taxes. Best school district in the area with the school bus stopping right at the lower gate. We are asking $119,900. I do have some pictures and would be happy to e-mail them as attachments to anyone who might be interested. BTW, so why are we moving???? I often have to use a wheelchair and the hallway in this home would have to be taken out..too much work and too expensive to make this a handicapped-access homestead.

yeah, it doesn't make me too happy thinking of packing and moving after only 2 years, yet you have to do what you have to do....we are looking at a place in central KY.an Amish community where we already know a few families...they have offered bartering to us, if we buy a house with land..we let them use the land for a hay field at no cost and they provide us with produce as well as two girls to clean the house twice a week..this makes me happy! The house is a newer one with 23 acres of land, a small pond, and a large barn..DH would use the barn as a furniture shop/workshop..he builds and sells antique reproduction chests and bureaus and cabinets etc..all Shaker style...if I were able to have help with cleaning, then he wouldn't have to do it all...in typical Amish fashion, the entire first floor of this house is open..plenty of room to use the wheelchair when I have to, so I could actually do more than I can now....in our home now, I can only be in the livingroom with my chair..just not enough room to negotiate..even if I could wheel into the kitchen, i need help getting out! LOL..I only need to use the chair perhaps twice a month for a few days when my legs quit, but it would be so nice to not have that keep me from doing things! I just pray that someone will come along soon and buy this homestead here..it is so lovely!

Lesley----I remember your last move-----I think there was some talk of Neil haveing to ride on the top of the car as there was no room & the dogs ---etc/etc/etc/----we sure had fun teaseing you--as you prepared for that move-----my & that has been 2 years now-----where does the time go???????

Your place is very nice-----all it will take is the right person finding out about it---
