Goat feed question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'd like to mix my own goat feed, at least for my milking doe. In perusing the archives, a number of people say to use either cracked or crimped corn as part of the mix. Why not just whole corn? I'd like to know, as it's easier for me to get whole organic corn (we try to keep our various animal feeds as organic as possible).

Thanks for your help,
