PARLIAMENT TO VOTE ON REPORT THAT CONDEMNS CATHOLIC CHURCH

BRUSSELS, Belgium, (Zenit.org).- The European Parliament on Tuesday is poised to debate a report that condemns the Catholic Church for its moral principles and its position on women priests.

The document, written by Spanish Socialist María Izquierdo Rojo, was approved last October by the Women´s Rights Commission and analyzed subsequently by the Citizens´ Liberties and Rights Commission.

Among other things, the document condemns "the administrations of religious organizations and the leaders of extremist political movements who promote racial discrimination, xenophobia, fanaticism and the exclusion of women from leading positions in the political and religious hierarchy." The report could be voted on this Wednesday.

The report also deplores "the interference of the churches and religious communities in the public and political life of the state, in particular when such interference is designed to restrict human rights and fundamental freedoms, for instance, in the sexual or reproductive sphere."

The European chamber´s principle would thus deny the Catholic Church the right to proclaim the moral doctrine it has always preached.

The proclamation of religious truths is guaranteed by Article 10 of the European Union´s Charter of Fundamental Rights, on "Liberty of Thought, Conscience and Religion."

No action took place in just having a thought!

"condemns the Catholic Church (or anyone) for its moral principles and its position on women priests"

So how do you rightly condemn someone today for affiliation with a principle? Unless.....times have changed.

Oh no! It is the new law for each of us to have an amoral system of self-government.

"Be prepared to die for your faith. And this is not a figure of speech." Fr. John A. Hardon, SJ during a homily of his which I attended (before he recently died).

Thanks Dennis for some cheering news! It's always nice to have someone point out that we're going in the right direction.

You're right, Frank. And the way that Dennis helps us share in the sufferings of Christ, by persecuting us, could be accepted as a Lenten gift.
I noticed that he was revealed to have been writing from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. And he bragged that we didn't have his real name or location, eh? Well, that explains his actions. He has adopted, as a surname, the brand of Canadian beer that he must over-imbibe (resulting in his obnoxious behavior here), eh?

Well, over here the European parliament does have some power... although it usually has to remind the local governments of this lest they ignore its recommendations forever. (It usually takes a few years to get European Union 'orders' into federal/state/district laws--and only then can they be enforced.)

Btw, the separation of church and state has always been an issue for the last 213 years. Some people do want religion to be strictly banned from public affairs. And aren't we a nuisance indeed? The real issue isn't related to the "sexual {...] sphere" or human rights--European governments give a sh** for these and are perfectly willing to ignore them. But imagine Christians being heard in the debate on ethics of stem cell research, business ethics,... we are a problem for the postmodern world. Frankly speaking, I'm happy to be such a problem.

Pax et bonum,

I propose to the Moderator that he delete this worthless thread.

Please, Mr. Mo, do your thing.

BRUSSELS, Belgium, (Sarcasm.org).- The European Parliament on Tuesday is poised to debate a report that condemns God for His moral principles and his sexist policy of making women bear the consequences of pregnancy.

According to sources, He is quoted as saying (Genesis 3:16), "I will greatly multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children." The National Organization of Women (NOW) had previously condemned this statement as inappropiate and outside the limits of the "Divine Powers Act."

Labor groups both in Europe and US have called on governmental organizations to censure God for his anti-labor statement made at about the same time: "in toil you shall work all the days of your life."

In addition to EU-led sanctions, an anticipated compensation package between God and his people is expected to exceed $50 Billion. Atheists will not be eligible to receive compensation (Sorry Dennis!)
